  • On the Road from Paros, you will see typical brown signs with yellow letters. Pavement few hundred meters looks new (and expensive), but there is not only one information about, what you are about to ...  more »
  • Take good shoes and a flashlight and don't worry. We found two inputs-two holes, where it was possible to get. How deep? How anyone is. A little cool. The whole area is freely accessible. In addition to the holes around the remnants of old buildings, and then also the workshop very sympathetic uncle, which makes marble statues, etc. Be shown will gladly shop "model" devices on pulling out the marble blocks from the mine.

  • PAROS marble Island, and thus, it is mined and quarried marble always. These marble quarries-abandoned old mines where mined gorgeous Parian marble with 7 centuries and finished mine at the beginning of the 20 century. Abandoned buildings "offices" extractive companies scattered near the quarries. To this place can be reached by car, as well as public transportation-bus from Parikia, which goes to Lefkes. We from Parikia, walking is about 4 km, because at the beginning of June, buses rarely went back and we were faster than on foot, waiting for a bus. The road itself is very beautiful, so we have not regretted that launched this March. After the village of Marathi to these caves lead pointers, so it is very easy to find. Marble Road leads from the road to the cave. There are three entrances that connect the underground galleries. Necessarily need non-slip shoes and flashlights. The main entrance to the cave is a large, fairly smooth going down, pleasant coolness. The marble cave walls are cleaned from the inscriptions, from which the marble shines by its purity and beauty. As in many places oozing water, it can be wet underfoot and slippery, look under your feet. No equipment is not here, because this is not a tourist cave, and the former mine. But no difficulty enter the cave there, some already growing stalactites. You may want to consider the different kinds of marble-white, yellow, green and pink, red and black. The main entrance leads to the different sides of many tunnels, but it did not go far, for fear of getting lost or catch the stones on the head. Near the cave "on duty" is a Ukrainian girl, which sells souvenirs from Parian marble, which makes her Greek husband. The girl is very big talker, will be pleased to answer any of your questions, always happy. So for fans of beautiful stones and cave exotic-this place is worth a visit!
