Domaine Sigalas, Oia

4.5
#3 of 65 in Wineries in Greece
The company was founded in 1991, under the name SIGALAS WINERY Ltd. The winery was initially located in the traditional canava of the Sigalas family. In 1998, a new production, bottling and aging facility was constructed, located in a privately owned area. Since then, and after continuous investment in modernization and expansion of the facilities,

the company has a processing and bottling production capacity of 300,000 bottles annually.

2003 was a milestone, since the shareholders of the company were increased, with the participation of Mr. Alexander Avataggelos, resulting in the increase of the financial capacity of the company. This is also the year when the company was renamed as DOMAINE SIGALAS S.A.

The wines are exported to Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Holland, England, Cyprus, Switzerland, Poland, Japan, Hong-Kong, Sweden, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Russia, USA and Canada.

Today, DOMAINE SIGALAS continues to implement its growth plan, based on the three principles on which it was created: a creative relationship with the traditions of the island of Santorini, technical savvy and quality.

  • Great time for amateur connoisseurs of Greek wines. Ideal for (re) discover the character of Greek wines. Treat yourself to the wine tasting ambassadors, 10 drinks, accompanied by a Board of local products. Very good service. Frame perfect views of the vines and the cats. Downside: the wines arrive all at the same time and warm up quickly especially in heat wave. In addition, I was disappointed to taste a wine that was finally out of stock...

  • Wine was great! Our food was delicious. We had the rocket salad and the cheese plate. Very cool outdoor seating and knowledgeable staff. Although it says directly on their menu that tours are available every day and private tastings available every day, they were not which was disappointing. The staff was not very attentive but when they were around they were knowledgeable about the wines. I recommend visiting for the wine and views for sure!
  • The food was great. BUT. They had a bunch of cute little kittens around. Customers wanted to pet them and hold them. My husband held one and the waitress rudely asked him to stop paying attention to the cats as well as other customers around. I know Greece has many many cats that are seen as a nuisance, but for a touristy location, they shouldn't demand their customers ignore the cats when every culture is different and people are paying a ton of money to vacation there and enjoy the experience thoroughly. The experience just happens to include cute little kittens. Give it up!! Lol
  • I am Greek. Arrived and amazed, entry was a service entrance... garbage and storage. Also I made reservation to be safe. They had not a clue no table saved. Point is to see vineyards and sunset on Santorini. My table behind folage or at lower view of service entrance. Asked to move a table to see sunset with plenty of room for service access. NOT our policy.. waiter and manager/owner. Very rude so I left. First time in my life in Greece. Enjoy!
  • Beautiful view, good food, and (most importantly) terrific wine! Highly recommend you go for the wine flight.
  • Sigalas is a cute winery off Oia, with a picturesque garden where you can enjoy you food and wine tasting. We went there late October and the hosts offered us a table in the sun with minimal wind to make us comfortable. We chose the wine tasters, Greek salad and the fish carpaccio. The food was super fresh and very tasty. The carpaccio was one of my favorite things I have ever eaten,so fresh and delicious, tasty! The wines were ok,not all to our taste, but that why it is a tasting. We got a friendly waiter helping us with the wines and a leaflet to read through more info per wine. It was good fun and we both got down to 1-2 we really loved, totally worth it!

Where to stay in Oia

Oia boasts arguably the most unusual lodgings in the Cyclades, offering rooms in cave-like houses carved into Santorini's dramatic cliff faces. Converted into boutique hotels, these dwellings provide airy rooms with good natural ventilation, allowing them to remain cool throughout the island's hot summers. The western side of Oia offers the best sunset views, but you must book months in advance to stay there. The less crowded eastern side offers comfortable lodgings in reasonably priced apartments with private balconies and free Wi-Fi.
