Domaine Sigalas, Oia

4.6
#3 of 54 in Wineries in Greece
Winery / Vineyard Food & Drink
The company was founded in 1991, under the name SIGALAS WINERY Ltd. The winery was initially located in the traditional canava of the Sigalas family. In 1998, a new production, bottling and aging facility was constructed, located in a privately owned area. Since then, and after continuous investment in modernization and expansion of the facilities,

the company has a processing and bottling production capacity of 300,000 bottles annually.

2003 was a milestone, since the shareholders of the company were increased, with the participation of Mr. Alexander Avataggelos, resulting in the increase of the financial capacity of the company. This is also the year when the company was renamed as DOMAINE SIGALAS S.A.

The wines are exported to Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Holland, England, Cyprus, Switzerland, Poland, Japan, Hong-Kong, Sweden, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Russia, USA and Canada.

Today, DOMAINE SIGALAS continues to implement its growth plan, based on the three principles on which it was created: a creative relationship with the traditions of the island of Santorini, technical savvy and quality.

  • We have been in this business for a tasting after visiting Oia. It is located to the North of the island and its particularity is that it also cultivates vineyards to spin in addition to the classic tree found throughout Santorini. Beautiful outer space surrounded by green vineyards and wide choice of wines, some really excellent (we tasted 6). Price for a good tasting accessible, while the bottles are objectively a little care.

  • A friend recommended this place and the TA reviews were all positive so we decided to visit. It is cute and charming, and the wine is pretty good, though not exceptional. We ordered an appetizer (melt...  more »

  • Best wines of Santorini! Amazing tasting room and super professional and friendly staff. Also the tasting room has an amazing chef, thus great food. Don't forget to make your way to Domaine Sigalas if you are in Santorini, even if not plan a trip to visit this amazing winery
  • Wine so-so. View kind of nice. Prices high. Stiff environment. Staff was slow and a little ignoring us. Seems like if you're not consuming 'a lot' that will be your fate.
  • Need reservation for winery tour. If you stay in Qia, try visit here.
  • Well-presented food and nice wines! The baked aubergine is very tasty but the meat and cheese platter is quite small for the price you pay... expecting more of that, but poor. But the wines are great, everyone will find one for his taste ! Nice views as well !
  • Recommended if you want to visit an authentic winery. Far from the tourists traps you can find close to Fira, this winery offers guided tour and tasting. Their wine is really good and the staff is very knowledgeable about their products.

Where to stay in Oia

Oia boasts arguably the most unusual lodgings in the Cyclades, offering rooms in cave-like houses carved into Santorini's dramatic cliff faces. Converted into boutique hotels, these dwellings provide airy rooms with good natural ventilation, allowing them to remain cool throughout the island's hot summers. The western side of Oia offers the best sunset views, but you must book months in advance to stay there. The less crowded eastern side offers comfortable lodgings in reasonably priced apartments with private balconies and free Wi-Fi.
