Palivou Estate, Nemea
(4.7/5 based on 30 reviews on the web)

....an old farm and many vines surrounding it tell a story of a long tradition that no one in the family can remember, when the first vine was planted..and above all this, the area of Ancient Nemea, where viniculture continues non-stop for 3,500 years. Since 1995, when the old traditional treading tank was replaced by a contemporary winery, following the demands of modern times, Palivou Estate began its new, extremely dynamic era.

In a place, which has been characterized as Name of Origin for what is probably the most important Greek red variety AGIORGITIKO, Palivou Estate owns one of the two largest vineyards in the zone of NEMEA.

More than 350 stremmas (area equal to 1000km) planted mostly with AGIORGITIKO, but also with Rodites, Malagousia, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah can lavishly offer wines of quality names.

Discovering wine tourism…

Palivou Estate, inaugurating a new era, focused on discovering this experience, which will offer the visitor a completely different aspect in his tourist wandering. Thus, it invites you to its hospitable winery, in Ancient Nemea.Only 110km-an hour’s drive from Athens, on the way from Korithos to Nafplio and Tripoli, in the area of Nemea, lies the biggest vineyard of the Balkans, the “Bordeaux of Southeast Europe”, with vineyards of 25.000 stremmas.

800 meters from the imposing archaeological site of Ancient Nemea lies Palivou Estate, a small and hospitable winery, built in the family owned vineyard. The best way to get accustomed with the process of producing the famous wines of Nemea is to follow us on a trip through the vineyard and the vine culture, where everything begins and continues into the aging cellar of the Estate, where the 300 French and American oak barrels are located.

  • Scenic Winery with lovely wine, our arrival we asked from the girl on reception to guide us in space, where volunteered right away starting from the place where the vines are continuing on tanks and finally in the cellar, giving us helpful information for the production of wine and the winery. The tour lasted about ten minutes and the distance was very nearby. We would prefer to get more information. Frustrating was that the tasting although free is "the upright" on the bench was welcome possibility of some cold dish, only upon request. During the other satisfied taste from wines that we tasted.

  • On the way from Nafplio to Athens, we decided a short detour to cross the "wine" of Ancient Nemea. New website nemeawineland.com all winemakers and chose a stop at Domaine Owns a and was open without appointment. It was Sunday afternoon and the climate that we met was very friendly and family. For their accuracy found in your time around the table with a Paschal lamb dimensions, though September, coming from the spit. The helpful girl we went into a small tasting room-shop, next to the large vats of wine. We tested the classic Nemea (agiorgitiko) and the antique version as well as a sparkling semi-sweet Rosé, the Bee, which we bought for the House at a price at least 40% lower than that of trade. We stayed very little really because we felt that we fell into a "family feast" and almost ntrapikame, but the mood was very friendly and I have no doubt that if we were asking them to sit a bit with them were welcoming us. The site of Ancient Nemea is a very beautiful route through slopes with vineyards. The same Nemea unfortunately nor is it has no charm, is a newly built village in General where we find neither a minimarket open, nor a cafe to eat something.
