Aegean Maritime Museum, Mykonos Town
(3.4/5 based on 70 reviews on the web)
Established to preserve and present Greek maritime history, Aegean Maritime Museum occupies a 19th-century building in the center of Mykonos Town. Ancient navigational instruments, model ships, and antique maps tell the story of the country's nautical past, transporting visitors to a time when Greek sailors explored and conquered distant corners of the world. Outside, a small museum garden displays larger artifacts, including reproductions of marble gravestones of sailors lost at sea. A large lighthouse also stands here, reminding visitors of the importance such structures held long before the invention of satellite navigation systems. • This museum is located next to Lena's house with a separate entrance. The latter being free we were entering quiet here. The Lord stops us and tells us, with broken English and with an expression not so nice, that cost 4 euros. I tell him all right. The cost was 4 euros each, we pay him smoothly and head out to look at the exhibits featured in two rooms which was the Museum ... nothing special to justify the price! In addition the antipathy of the owner "seasons". In comparison was more detail and cared for Lena's house (whose owner does not ask for anything and is very polite), not to mention that with a few more dollars I visited the huge and beautiful Museum of Heraklion in Crete without any paragone...ma you know, in Mykonos, daydreaming to expect!

  • Loved the museum and the shop models. Beautiful china displayed from the captain's home. Staff was very courteous and made our visit very enjoyable. Not very accessible for those with mobility issues.
  • Nice place to spend a cultural half hour away from the shopping streets of town. Admission costs 4 euro or 2 euro for students.
