  • Thought wouldn't find a lot of antique items and I did it's a small town square with different sellers, from house hold to furniture. In the middle of the action from good to very expensive prices. Re...  more »
  • Join the flea market atmosphere or you sink. Actually once you have stepped on the market, you understand the rhythm of the Athenians. Des of the typical souvenir shops, shops specializing in concrete and interesting articles. In addition all the antiques are shops full of things!

  • Find everything, the good parts, of course, is expensive. Wants attention on your things, your eyes fourteen.

  • An Athenian landmark and a good example of a place rejigging itself for a more modern role in the city. Not only full of tourists but a hangout for local youth too, kids from all over Athens meet and spend time here. A fun place, with a great vibe, modern Athens at its vibrant best. Great starting point for any adventure or exploration.
  • Great place to stroll around, can easily spend a couple of hours in the market. Interesting stuff on display at competitive prices. Friendly atmosphere.
  • Lots of great stuff. And way cheaper than some of the other places around town. And you can make deals...
  • I grew up going to old farm auctions and looking through misc piles of antique junk. This place was pretty cool with dozens of vendors. Some shops are clean and organized, and others are piled high. Prices are subjective. Be careful because some stuff you can find on ebay for less; but if you're from out of town, it's always cool to say, "I got this in Athens."
  • Monastiraki Flea Markets (Athens Flea Markets) We spent an enjoy hour and half wandering through these markets just taking in the atmosphere. Walking through these new markets which is right next door to ancient ruins feels somewhat surreal at times. Most of the goods for sale are targeting the tourist. There are bags, shoes, T-shirts, statues, magnets etc as well as the occasional store selling something different. Be sure to compare your prices and try out your haggling skills. We watched as several people (usually young women) who were approached by men and had woven bracelets tied onto their wrists before they realised what was happening. They were then asked to pay for the bracelet and when they refused and tried to remove it they struggled to untie it. The men then started getting more vocal and demanding payment. SO BEWARE! Lots of cafes and eateries in this area to sit back and enjoy a snack or coffee and watch the world go by.
