Milatos Cave, Milatos

#7 of 12 in Nature in Lasithi Prefecture
Explore Milatos Cave, best known as the center of an 1823 battle between the brave local rebels of Milatos and the invading Turkish army, which ended tragically. You'll need a flashlight to explore the pitch-black caves, and many recommended taking transport to the site as the walk from the village is quite long. Within the cave, look for a small church built in 1935: it sits near a large circular opening revealing some spectacular views of the surrounding area, so bring along a camera! • Visited this cave in the year 2017. The road to the cave on the serpentine, pretty cool. Before the cave broadens road-is where to put the car. Next 10-15 minutes on foot. Before it looks like it was an official historic site, because the left House, where borrowed money for the entrance and selling souvenirs. Now everything is abandoned, admission is free. Only sits the old Greek and sells cakes and coffee out of the bag. Walking the road goes on pretty beautiful gorge and simple. Although it is better to take normal shoes suitable for the stones. A small cave. There is no lighting, but it should be low in some places and carefully place your feet! It is better not to hope for flashlights in the phones! If you want to get pleasure from the caves, take a good quality light for everyone! In the cave many stone growths-columns. Perhaps stalactites and stalagmites (but I'm not sure). Separately in the right part of the cave Orthodox altar and dumping the bones of monks. If everywhere in the cave would have been light, all available part could be seen from the entrance. In fact, without exploring the cave photography without roads need 15 minutes. But way too beautiful. Don't expect long walks under the ground! But, if you are on the road and you are not afraid of serpentines, go!

  • Early October is the perfect time for rest and travel on Crete. For me and my husband, it was important to take a break from the bustle of the city and a busy pace of work. We wanted to plunge into the world of wonderful travel around the island. Yes and blizhajshmi Islands too. As well as lie back on a sun lounger with a book, under the sound of the surf. Our zhelania a small trip with wonderful impressions came true.
