Milatos Cave, Milatos

Must see · Cave · Nature / Park
Explore Milatos Cave, best known as the center of an 1823 battle between the brave local rebels of Milatos and the invading Turkish army, which ended tragically. You'll need a flashlight to explore the pitch-black caves, and many recommended taking transport to the site as the walk from the village is quite long. Within the cave, look for a small church built in 1935: it sits near a large circular opening revealing some spectacular views of the surrounding area, so bring along a camera! For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Milatos holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Milatos Cave and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Found on the road rising out of Milatos towards Kounali this is an excellent little cave. Parking is limited to a couple of by the road spots and its about a 300 metre walk from the road which is...  more »
  • Great to see, with views all over Milatos, we drove to the bottom of the steps, parked up, and it was an easy 10 mins walk to the cave.  more »
  • This place was crazy! I ignored the other posts and wore flip flops (big mistake). There's a shear drop from the church off the cliff edge inside the cave which was pretty scary. Could've gone down...  more »
  • There is a small chapel inside with an altar where you can light candles. The view is nice, but don't expect to be blown away with amazement. It's a good visit for when you're in the area or passing trough, but I wouldn't recommend traveling more than 20 minutes just for this. And don't forget to bring a flashlight! (Phone is fine too)
  • Nice small cave, nothing special but fun to have a look. Bonus: there's a small church in it. PS. bring a flashlight (or similar), the entrance is quite dark.
  • Amazing Cave. You Can go inside it, very calm place. Great view for some Photos. When you see a huge stone with Milatos Cave name, go to the right, to the hill.
  • You need good walking shoes, not a place for young children, if you have problems walking don't go unsuitable for pushchair. And would be much better if you take a torch as there is no lighting past the church as the entrance, can can use your phone but don't expect to see much. It's free to see
  • Nice and quite, little outside of the major touristic areas. Therefore, I personally liked it. Cave itself is relatively small. Just a nice trip to show your kids and to do something else then hang out on the beach...
