  • Lake Vouliagmeni is located on the southern coast of Attica around 21 km from the Centre of Athens, close to the Sea (it is separated from the sea just 100 metres) in a very picturesque area. If you suddenly got to Athens, take the time to get to this place. I went out of the tour bus. but there go the Intercity from Syntagma Square. true pleasure is not a free-entrance to the beach seems to be 10 euros-but it's worth it-unique sources make this Lake healing .... Temperatures range between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Water contains minerals, metals, mainly hydrogen sulfide. Thermal properties of Lake helping in the treatment of rheumatism and other diseases. Vouliagmeni is not mentioned in any ancient text. Ancient authors seem to ignore it. This mystery complements the name "Vouliagmeni", which is related to the phenomenon of subsidence. The Lake was formed probably in Christian times, when collapsed the roof of a huge underground caves due to the earthquake. In the Ottoman era, the Lake is referred to as "Vul'jasmenos" or "Karachi", which means "black water". People who carelessly immersed in Lake Vouliagmeni probably do not know that legend has it there inhabits a mermaid who purchase at the bottom of the young guys. In total, there are 14 different Lake underground tunnels. One of them is the biggest in the world-its length is 800 meters, width from 60 to 150 meters and an average depth of 80 meters. Submerged passages have total length 4.3 km. Around Lake Vouliagmeni formed a myth associated with excellent visibility at the depth, high temperature water. However, in this labyrinth of tunnels, even an experienced diver can lose orientation. For example, in tunnels Lake killed eight divers. In 1995 year, the caves were closed to the public to prevent accidents. Since that time only permitted diving for scientific purposes.
