Acropolis of Lindos, Lindos

Must see · Ruin · Tourist Spot
Perched atop a rocky hill, Acropolis of Lindos represents natural citadel fortified over the centuries by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and the Ottomans. Offering sweeping views of a small town's picturesque harbor, this important archaeological site contains remains of several ancient structures, the most notable of which is a Doric temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and dated to about 300 BCE. A monumental medieval wall surrounds this age-old temple and fortifications built by the Crusaders in the 14th century. The climb up to these ancient ruins can be quite arduous; you can make it a bit easier by arranging for a donkey ride up to the top. • Somewhat busier than Kamiros but interesting nevertheless. Quite a steep climb up to the Acropolis so not for the faint hearted! Amazing views over Lindos itself and the lagoon the other side. It.....  more »
  • This is one of the most beautiful places I have seen (and I have seen a fair bit)! The combination of the view, the situation, the castle and the acropolis in one place is just amazing. Definitely...  more »
  • There are a number of paths up to the Acropolis that are easy to find. Unless you take a donkey you have to walk. It’s a bit steep but only takes 10 minutes. Once you’re there, there is a ticket...  more »
  • It was beautiful! I loved this visit so much. One side note is we had to pay to use the restroom but I've seen that in other cities as well. I will definitely go back one day! ❤
  • I hear it's an unbelievably hot, humid, packed, and slow during on season. Off season is much more tame. You can actually enjoy the architecture and take in the sights, sometimes without another soul in sight in Lindos itself. Then the Acropolis itself is wondrous to behold. We were among the first up, and luckily that afforded peace and quiet amongst structures old as the hills. Amazing.
  • Stiff climb up through the delightful streets of Lindos. Beautiful views of Lindos and an atmospheric location. Go early to beat the rush or get there late on to see the evening light on the ruins.
  • Very nice place in the island of Rhodes. There are very nice views from the Acropolis to the town of Lindos and it’s surrounding, the climb to the Acropolis include many stairs’ there is no railing in most of the way so it can be a little dangerous for little kids. After a climb of most of the stairs there is a nice viewpoint near the tickets stand (12€ for adult and children are free).
  • Wonderful view! Especially for sunset. But is windy, no guides/info panels (yes there is one, but it doesn't help too much...). And it's not very suitable for wheelchairs.
