Preveli Beach
Find Preveli Beach, hidden away just below a historic monastery where the lagoon and beach are known locally as "Palm Beach." A grove of palm trees crowds the opening of the Kourtaliótiko gorge that opens onto the sand. Boats from Plakias will bring you from your resort to the site, where you can swim in the Libyan Sea and hike the grove in this relatively isolated location. Although the beach is secluded, there is a small cafe nearby. Consider including a visit to the monastery and a hike through the gorge while you're here. With our international travel planner, Lefkogia attractions like Preveli Beach can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

Not worth the dangerous mountains roads and the time and effort to get here. The wind is really strong, it is very rocky and not especially pretty. Don’t bother.

We arrived at 4pm at the taverna. Actually too late to do the hike. We took the wrong way, but met 3 German guys walking through the water. We got their sticks and watershoes and followed them...

Beautiful beach, need to walk down the cliff (stairs) or in the river. Worth it, in August very crowded.
-
View is breathtaking you can walk and swim on the beach. *Drive to DINYSOS BEACH* which is a 8mins walk to preveli beach. Wear a appropriate foot ware there are steep uneven steps to climb however nowhere as exhaustive as 400 odd steps mentioned in other reviews when driving direct to Preveli beach. There is a little hut to grab a quick bite to eat and also access to changing room and wc toilet.

What was forecast as a rainy day couldn't have turned out any nicer! The bus ride from Heraklion traversed through the coastal mountains in the northern side of Crete and then down through the gorges and valleys until we made a boat transfer at Damnoni Beach for a 30 minute ride along the craggy cliff southern coast. When you arrive at the hidden beach of Preveli, you are met with Palm trees and high bluffs, and you immediately feel the seclusion of a small spot of paradise. Walk upstream along the cold water river that flows from mountain springs into the Libyan Sea. Every turn is another breathtaking view and photo op! Then hike up one of the trails to the top for amazing southern views of sparkling clear water and landscapes! Relax and enjoy!!

This place is a paradise!the view is breathtaking, a tropical paradise in Crete! You can walk and swim into the river and also, walk into the palm forest.Do not skip this beach. An easier way to arrive there and also, avoid the 382 steps, is to drive until Dionysos beach and walk 8 minutes to reach Preveli beach.

One of the best beaches in Crete. The palm forest and the river make it truly special. When there take a walk to explore the palm forest. A couple of things to note - the water in the river and the sea is colder than other Crete beaches. Sea is with pebbles and the water is almost sweet. There is paid parking - 2-4 eur per car. The walk down and up is tough but manageable - it offers great views.
