Lassithi Plateau, Lasithi Prefecture

(4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
A fertile plateau that produces some of Crete's olive oil, Lassithi Plateau features white-sailed windmills extending above the valleys. Explore the area to find some early versions of these windmills scattered among old ruins of farms and towns. A memorial here commemorates the destruction of many of these villages during the Ottoman and Egyptian attacks of the 19th century. One of the best ways to tour the plateau's sites is by car; rental cars are available throughout the island. • Be sure to visit the plateau of Lasithi! The road is beautiful-right in the middle of the mountains. Unusual landscapes, but it's better to go with excursion-you can lose) a lot of attractions in the vicinity. Beautiful nature, myths (the cave of Zeus), good taverns, souvenir shops, Church.

  • The Lassithi Plateau (the so-called birthplace of the God, Zeus) offers stunning scenery with thousands of olive trees covering the landscape. Very much worth visiting.  more »
  • Perhaps someone is will seem dull may view monotonous, but I am a man, enamoured in Crete! Yellow-brown post with green olive trees, bezdonoe blue sky, Sun, mountains, windmills, which leniro shake your lopostjami during a full calm air. And of course the donkeys). The impression that time has stopped in the Valley. The locals move slowly, talk. This is a very sharp contrast after the bustle of megacities. About the cave of Zeus worth mentioning separately. It's worth it!) Take a few minutes to not running on souvenir tents. Pull slightly away from the tourist buses. Naslidites' taste the Crystal air, incredible bezoblachnogog sky, calm tranquillity
