  • When designing the two week tour around the island we have put the Dikteon (Psychro) cave on the list due to its mythology. But all the visit gave more than expected. I liked a walk to the entrance (f...  more »
  • Here you should come relatively early before noon during the 15 minute ascent of the chargeable car park to the cave not too much being exposed to the heat. There are 2 ways to do this, a relatively comfortable, well paved, which is only in the blazing sun and a rather mountainous way over hill and Dale in the shade. Lazy can up on donkeys or ride down, costing I think so 10-€15. Entry to the cave itself is in 6 / person, but that's OK. The cave is very impressive, well constructed path with fixed Rails. However, recommend sturdy footwear and no flip flops, as you can see this again and again.

  • Visiting this archaeological site brought to life the mythology of Zeus. One can't help but envision the Greek God growing up within it. And once you learn the history behind the ancient people who came here from all over the Mediterranean to worship inside the cave, it makes this experience even more amazing. One bit of advice: for the love of Zeus wear comfortable clothes and shoes good for climbing. You can make it easier on yourself by paying for a donkey ride, but it takes away from the experience. The fee differs depending whether you pay for the one way ride, or the round trip.
  • Not the most impressive cave on the island, Zeus could have done better. That being said it was interesting to visit and the ride around the plateau is really nice if you re driving.
  • Very long step climb both to reach the cave and also inside, not a lot to see and poor lighting of the steps in the cave. Well worth taking the donkey ride up unless you are very fit
  • Visited on a combined tour with Knossos, two of Crete's most popular attractions couldn't be more different. Zeus' birthplace is more natural but with the artificial coloured lights felt more touristy, but still well worth visiting. The fresh orange juice while waiting for the coach to depart was an added bonus.
  • Nice place with amazing wiew on the Lasithi plateau. Must see.
