Samos, Kokkari

4.4
Samos is a Greek island in the eastern Aegean Sea, south of Chios, north of Patmos and the Dodecanese, and off the coast of Asia Minor, from which it is separated by the 1.6km-wide Mycale Strait. It is also a separate regional unit of the North Aegean region, and the only municipality of the regional unit.In ancient times Samos was an especially rich and powerful city-state, particularly known for its vineyards and wine production. It is home to Pythagoreion and the Heraion of Samos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the Eupalinian aqueduct, a marvel of ancient engineering. Samos is the birthplace of the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, after whom the Pythagorean theorem is named, the philosopher Epicurus, and the astronomer Aristarchus of Samos, the first known individual to propose that the Earth revolves around the sun. Samian wine was well known in antiquity, and is still produced on the island.

  • To get to Samos was a surprise, it will be because I was expecting the usual Greek atmospheres from overcrowded beaches full of people ready to party in the evening. But Samos amazed me for not being all that an island within reach of family, where to find a sense of peace, tranquility, simple things, people very welcoming. Made me enjoy what was supposed to be a time, Greece. So if you want a quiet holiday outside the Greek circuits on a human scale, money to be turned easily by car without striking countries but with a different flavor Samos for you!

  • I visited about 23 Greek Islands and Samos to me is one of the ideal destinations for tourists; I try to synthesize the whys. ACCESSIBILITY AND TOURIST SERVICES. Several Italian airports are connected with Samos through direct flights to avoid the hassle of a change of flight or worse a journey by sea; over 40 years of development of tourism offer at least one star hotel resort (Italian) and local and international cuisine, simple Inns, rental cars and shops. Spread wherever the English language. You must always pay attention to the wallet, but has spread a sense of safety. Streets are easy to walk, although Hill become narrow and winding; those dirt roads require special means. GENERAL APPEARANCE AND BEACHES. The island is very green and rich in water, so looks very different from the Cyclades and Sporades or rather resembles the Ionian. Apart from Psili Ammos East and West, which are sandy, the beaches are mostly pebbled, but the beauty is always crystal clear water; There are beaches more crowded as solitary or more as Klima and Poseidon Potami. TOWNS AND VILLAGES. On the coast do not miss Pythagorio and Vathy, capital, while Karlovassi is less interesting; even the little towns have to be seen because you can still breathe an air of old Greece, such as in Myli or Manolates. CULTURAL ASPECTS. Samos is an island from holidays Sun sea, agreed, but also breaks and mind wants its part and then I would recommend at least the archaeological museums of Pythagorio and Vathy, which do not commit too, and some Church (i.e. to Pythagorio) or the monastery Zoodochos Pygi type. Great day trips to Patmos and Ephesus. Kokkari, Kokkari, Samos, finally we talk about la perla, an elegant village crossed by a road lined with inviting alberghetti and eateries and parallel to the beach, which is of pebbles but with clean water and-most impressed-very quiet and peaceful even at maximum crowding! In conclusion, this island is a great destination for a bit at all, young people and pensioners, Turis who seek rest or an active holiday, singles and families with children: everyone will find his Samos!
