Create an itinerary including Balos Lagoon
Balos Lagoon resides on the uninhabited island off the northwestern coast of Crete. The lagoon features warm and shallow waters, making it a popular spot for families with small children. At the height of the tourist season, daily ferries running from the nearby Kissamos port bring hundreds of visitors to the beach. Avoid the crowds by taking your swim early in the morning, before the Kissamos ferries arrive. You can also spend a few solitary moments by exploring the ruins of a small Roman settlement, located just north of the lagoon. The island offers limited tourist facilities, so bring lots of drinking water and a light snack. • Busy but well worth a visit by boat (wouldn't recommend driving, we could see a long queue of stationery traffic leading to the car park up above the beach). Bluest seas ever, lovely shallow warm...
