Balos Beach and Lagoon, Kissamos
(4.4/5 based on 5,000+ reviews on the web)
Balos Beach and Lagoon resides on the uninhabited island off the northwestern coast of Crete. The lagoon features warm and shallow waters, making it a popular spot for families with small children. At the height of the tourist season, daily ferries running from the nearby Kissamos port bring hundreds of visitors to the beach. Avoid the crowds by taking your swim early in the morning, before the Kissamos ferries arrive. You can also spend a few solitary moments by exploring the ruins of a small Roman settlement, located just north of the lagoon. The island offers limited tourist facilities, so bring lots of drinking water and a light snack. Balos Beach and Lagoon is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Kissamos Edition.

  • To get this beautiful beach one has to walk down the hill around 20 minutes, so be prepared for climbing up on the way back, save enough water.
  • You must see Balos - totally unspoilt and very blue :-) - just amazing on every level - no facilities on the island though so take what you need with you
