Balos Beach and Lagoon, Kissamos

Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 5,000+ reviews on the web
Balos Beach and Lagoon resides on the uninhabited island off the northwestern coast of Crete. The lagoon features warm and shallow waters, making it a popular spot for families with small children. At the height of the tourist season, daily ferries running from the nearby Kissamos port bring hundreds of visitors to the beach. Avoid the crowds by taking your swim early in the morning, before the Kissamos ferries arrive. You can also spend a few solitary moments by exploring the ruins of a small Roman settlement, located just north of the lagoon. The island offers limited tourist facilities, so bring lots of drinking water and a light snack. Balos Beach and Lagoon is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Kissamos Edition.

  • Traveled on a boat with a visit to the island of Gramvousa, afraid to go by car because of the gravel road. Knew that stunning species it is necessary to climb the stairs. An hour spent on the descent-rise, but it was worth it, swam an hour. Water left in the Bay directly hot (when viewed from the top), floated to the right. Chose west Crete for a holiday for the most part because of this place.
