Balos Beach and Lagoon, Kissamos
(4.4/5 based on 5,000+ reviews on the web)
Balos Beach and Lagoon resides on the uninhabited island off the northwestern coast of Crete. The lagoon features warm and shallow waters, making it a popular spot for families with small children. At the height of the tourist season, daily ferries running from the nearby Kissamos port bring hundreds of visitors to the beach. Avoid the crowds by taking your swim early in the morning, before the Kissamos ferries arrive. You can also spend a few solitary moments by exploring the ruins of a small Roman settlement, located just north of the lagoon. The island offers limited tourist facilities, so bring lots of drinking water and a light snack. Balos Beach and Lagoon is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Kissamos Edition.

  • There is nothing to describe this marvellous view. Its like to be in Carribean islands. For sure you should visit this if you go to Chania.
  • I have never seen any palce like this before. This place its very special not only for couples. Clean water and amazing views is the most thing on holiday.
  • The access road (stones) is VERY busy, parking spaces are rare and there's a long way to walk (still rocks) to reach the site, which is also VERY popular. But it is large enough (unlike perhaps to GRAMVOUSA) to find place, although you'll like you around to see all its facets. As to GRAMVOUSA, boats 'Cruises' vomit their passengers in line breaking Indian silhouetted on the horizon as the disciplined Lemmings. The waters are shallow (a pool of salt water), turquoise on white sand in different places. Forget the crowd and do not miss this appointment with a capricious but generous nature here. TIP: come early in the morning to stay ahead of vessels whose first should not reach the site until 11: 00 (just check with their company). But be careful not to leave your car (if that's how you go there) to get caught by other unscrupulous tourists.
