  • Very nice Museum which can be visited in one hour to €2 entry! Staff was friendly. Open House on 2 floors. A very beautiful statues and pottery are presented, the mosaics are really impressive and beautiful. It's really to do!

  • This was a cross between the tardiss and Pandora' s box! You pay a small entrance fee of 2 euro per person and we visited in November and were the only people there. Open from 9am til 2pm. The museum ...  more »
  • The museum is pretty new, so it's in prime condition and stuffed with impressive exhibits, well-curated - with blurbs in English for the most part. The upstairs room has a stunning mosaic that's a mus...  more »

  • Interesting but rather small, this museum is worth visiting if you're spending some days in the area. If you're only passing by, it can probably be missed without many regrets. It contains nice artifacts though and the upstairs mosaic is well preserved and worth seeing.
  • Some interesting bits and pieces from the area. A pity filming inside is not allowed
  • This museum had something special that made me like it more than the Archaeological Museum of Chania! While it is a small one, the mosaics on the first floor were amazing!
  • Worth a visit for mosaic alone. Located right in the centre of Kissamos the museum entry charge is just €3. Although not a large display, there are some wonderful items and very good interpretive captions and narrative. The collection is on two floors linked by both stairs and a lift. For us the highlight was the display of Greco-Roman mosaics. I would have scored the museum higher but for two things. Firstly a very strange policy on photography (no zoom or tele lenses????) and secondly, there was display lighting in place but it was not switched on. Consequently some parts of the display were poorly lit and other parts were not shown off to full effect. The mosaics would have looked vibrant if the lighting had been switched on. Perhaps the gloom was part of the austerity measures. However, still a good 20-30 minutes well-spent seeing artefacts from the rich Cretan heritage.
  • Not the biggest museum, but some good things to see here.

Where to stay in Kissamos

Stay close to Crete's sandy beaches by booking a room at a seafront hotel in Kissamos. Although pricey, rooms with sea views fill up early in the season, so if you arrive late or without reservations, look for one of the area's family-run guesthouses. If you need more space and privacy for the entire family, consider the town's self-catering apartments, which provide air-conditioned bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the premises.
