Ancient Kamiros, Kalavarda

4.3
Explore the remains of an ancient civilization dating back nearly 3,000 years. Ancient Kamiros was established by the Dorians but was likely inhabited even earlier by the Achaeans. The ancient town flourished as an agricultural society, producing oil, wine, and figs during the sixth century. The town was abandoned gradually as the residents moved to the nearby city of Rhodes. Stroll the streets and residential areas to imagine what life would have been like in the ancient town. Walk up to the top of the hill to see the acropolis and a covered reservoir, which could supply water for up to 400 families. Enjoy a spectacular view of Rhodes and the sea below. • We returned after 13 years from the first visit and found that the Ancient Kamiros was greatly improved, the routes were reported, explanatory plaques were exposed for the visit, all I think with the contribution of European funds. It is true that it is now paid, 6 euros, but now it is worth the cost of the visit. Remember that in the year 2006 it was free but it was like abandoning. The ancient Dorica city overlooks the sea from a truly impressive slope and the ruins give you a good idea of how the city was designed surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and with a beautiful panoramic view.

  • Ancient Kamiros is highly recommended to go to. A lot smaller than Lindos but also much less crowded! You don't have to be a whole day but worth a trip! There is a cafe there. Don't buy anything there. The prices are really scandalous expensive! 2 cans of drinking, 2 ice creams and a bag of chips: €17.50. Don't buy anything!

  • We were very impressed by the historic complex. She is quite large and super well maintained. 6 Euro entrance fee is justified. It is expressly pointed out that it is not allowed to climb the walls. We were there for about 30-40 minutes. However, we did not take a guided tour and explored everything on our own. Ancient Kamiros should be seen when you are in Rhodes.

  • Guys, this place should be in your top 3 things to do if you visit Rhodes Island. Beautiful sights and preserved ancient city would leave a mark in your heart, I advise you to read about the history of this place when you visiting. And if you land at Rhodes City on the way to Kamiros you could visit many other beautiful towns and amazing sights.
  • +interesting visit with sufficient information placed at various locations -6€ fee / person rather steeply priced
  • You must visit this place. Words can't express what you feel here if you like ancient Greece history.
  • Unfriendly staff, high prices considering there are only some tables with information on the old settlement. The settlement itself and the view is worth a visit, but the site is not organized and prepared well.
  • A lots of ancient ruins. If you like this it is place for you!
