Create an itinerary including Ancient Kamiros
Explore the remains of an ancient civilization dating back nearly 3,000 years. Ancient Kamiros was established by the Dorians but was likely inhabited even earlier by the Achaeans. The ancient town flourished as an agricultural society, producing oil, wine, and figs during the sixth century. The town was abandoned gradually as the residents moved to the nearby city of Rhodes. Stroll the streets and residential areas to imagine what life would have been like in the ancient town. Walk up to the top of the hill to see the acropolis and a covered reservoir, which could supply water for up to 400 families. Enjoy a spectacular view of Rhodes and the sea below. • A large expanse of ruins of the ancient city that was one of three such on the island. Easy to walk around and inspect the ruins. Entry fee of only 6 EU and there is a discount for seniors. Well...

  • What a beautiful place. Cypress tree lined avenue, Italian in style, leads up to the ruins. Not a surprise when you discover the ruins were excavated during the Italian occupation. A good size car...

  • It was a hot summers day when we literally stepped back in time... The Archaeological Site of Kamiros is very well kept. You can walk around the ancient city and admire the views or walk on the ancient steps through it like they did all those years ago. We were there on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't too busy (as you can see in the photos) so enjoy this place of history and capture the moment in time. Highly recommended.
  • Very impressive historical grounds. Gives a good impression of the classical age, where this city must have been beautiful. Especially the watering system is interesting. Too bad we weren't allowed to make a drone video
  • Hot, dry and aromatic with all the lovely pungent rosemary shrubs and caper bushes dotted about. A vast complex of Ancient Greek houses, temples and bath houses uncovered from the sides of the hill by the helpful Italians in the last century. There’s still more to be uncovered but as with all Rhodian ancient sites, you get to be up close and personal with the historic structures imagining the hustle and bustle like on the streets of old Rhodes. What’s so amazing is why they chose to build the site so high up the hillside, it must have been a long walk for the ancients fancying a nice day on the beach.
  • Magical.. if your into history this will stir you imagination. A city nearly 3000 years old.. you stand in the shoes of ancient Greece.. and the Roman empire. A flavour of what life was like.....
  • A journey through history of Rhodes. Just think that this place is the birth place of a poet who is considered as magnificent as Homer, even if his scripts haven't survived. A must visit for everyone who is interested knowing how life was 2500 years ago on Rhodes island.
