Gain an understanding of Cretan history through exhibits spanning the Byzantine era to World War II at Historical Museum of Crete. Founded in 1953 in a neoclassical building formerly known as the House of Kalokairinos, the museum showcases the Nikos Kazantzakis collection, featuring the study and library from the author's home, personal effects, manuscripts of his works, and first editions of his books in various languages. Other exhibits highlight the works of renowned Cretan artist, El Greco, and the traditional crafts of the island, including examples of ceramics, sculptures, coins, jewelry, wall paintings, and heirlooms. Rent an audio guide for more information about each exhibit and take a break with a sea view at the balcony cafe. • Admission for an adult without benefits worth 6 euros. 3 euro worth audioguide in Russian. We listened to the audio guide together and it was quite convenient. Take, not regret, audioguide conducts a full tour other than Russian. Meet overseas museums, where the Russian tours have been less complete than anlgljiskom or French. Wrong here and Russian language is very valued. The Museum presents the history of Crete since Roman times. All earlier should look at the archaeological museum. Historical Museum is located in a beautiful mansion near the port. The exposition is organized perfectly and will be of interest to children and adults. Single chip-medieval layout of Candia (Heraklion), the scale of 1 to 500, where you can backlight buttons themselves different historic sites and attractions. It really helps to orient and modern Heraklion. Particularly interesting are the numismatic Hall and dedicated to World War II. The Museum uses effects that helps you feel the history. Still very pleased that the Museum has a cafe with reasonable prices. The Café has an outlet in the garden with a fountain and balcony overlooking the sea. Museum staff are very friendly and speak several languages.
