Delphi contain the remains of sanctuaries dedicated to the cults of Apollo and Athena, as well as several other structures presumably built for sports. Providing a glimpse into the ancient world's religious beliefs, these ruins joined the list of World Heritage sites in 1987. Tradition says Zeus determined this location as the center of Gaia, the great mother of all in Greek mythology. Apollo's sanctuary, built here in the 4th century BCE, served as the cultural and religious center of ancient Greece for many centuries. The sanctuary famously housed Apollo's oracle, a priestess capable of making prophesies by channeling the god's spirit. I admit to being a lover of history. Mankind's road to get here, for better or for worse, is important. Having said that, Delphi is an extraordinary place to see and experience. The site is one of the earth's most precious jewels. The museum and its collection are incredible. The town and its people are brilliant. The food is yummy. It's very affordable, and the views getting there and back, as Bilbo said, are breathtaking to say the least. And it's all true. 6 stars.

Spent a night or two in Athens and was not impressed as the town is super run down with graffiti everywhere. Coming out to Delphi was the best decision as the road to Delphi is beautifully decorated with wild flowers (May) in blooming. Delphi itself had so much in it to see besides just ruins, we found all sorts of critters everywhere in the area, some I have never seen before. Its a bit hot even at 20 degrees while in the sun but the temperature drops to a much more comfy weather as night fall. The ruins were beautiful and the hills were lovely

Simply a must when you visit Athens. The historical site is a amazing, but even the route to Delphi makes it worth it. Just over 200km outside Athens surrounded by beautiful mountain. Rent a car and make a road trip out of it.

Great place to visit. A lot of ruins to walk around and the museum was great. The ticket includes all of the ruins and the museum. 12€ per person and 6€ for reduced price (seniors/students). Last entrance on the Thursday we visited was 19:20.

One of the most important historical places of Greece. Not only because of its religious meaning, but also thanks to its political role. It is surrounded by the highest mountains of Greece what means that the views are simply amazing.

Where to stay in Delphi

Despite its popularity with tourists, Delphi offers plenty of affordable hotel lodgings even at peak season, though you must book early if you want a room with a view of the Gulf of Corinth. Travelers looking for budget-friendly options can try one of the area's inns, where friendly service and easy access to good shops and restaurants compensate for a lack of modern amenities. Alternatively, visit Delphi's ancient sites from one of the boutique hotels clinging to the slopes of nearby Mount Parnassus.
