Archaeological Site of Delos, Delos

(1,000+ reviews on the web)
Ruin
Hop on a ferry to see Archaeological Site of Delos, the birthplace of twins Apollo and Athena--the god of light and the goddess of wisdom. The entire island is uninhabited and serves as an archaeological site, so explore at your leisure. Climb to the top of the highest hill for a panoramic view of the surrounding sea and nearby islands. Take photographs of the famous stone lions that grace the road leading to the three temples of Apollo, and at the museum view some of the artifacts discovered in what is now a World Heritage Site. Consider hiring a guide in advance to help you understand what you are seeing. Shade is limited, and the cafe on the island is pricey, so bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks. • One of the best archaeological sites that I have visited. We went in barco-lanzadera, the first which was at 9 in the morning and return at 13.30 hours, the journey is short but nice. Essential protection against the Sun, good shoes and water. The route is well signposted, the views from the mountain belts are splendid is worth the climb. The slope of the same is the area of the theatre, where the villas and the best preserved mosaics are.

  • An ancient city on an island in the middle of the Egean sea. With almost modern conveniences. An harbour, fast food, hotels, , ... and this 3-4000 years ago.
  • Super historic! Birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. This is a must-visit part of a trip to Mylonos. Nice ferry ride over. I would highly recommend getting the tour guide package for 50€ a person. It was well worth it. There's also an indoor museum that's worth checking out to see the artifacts that were retrieved. Otherwise the ruins on give you a partial picture of the archaeological importance of this site.
  • Incredible site. The ancient ruins really do depict the site that stood centuries ago. If you love you're ancient civilisations, architecture and history you are going to fall in love here. It's amazing as to how much of the cities ruins still exist. A truly spectacular place
  • Amazing Location. We did a trip from mykonos for 20€ by boat which takes around 30 minutes. Plan at least 3h to see the small island and go to the top of the mountain. The Sanctuary of Zeus and Athena. It's quite a few stairs to get up there but the view is amazing! Fascinating to think about the Greek culture over 2000 years ago
  • Amazing to visit these ruins, birthplace of Apollo. We had just over under two hours and would recommend trying to have longer if you can.
