Corinth Canal, Corinth

(4.2/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Pass through Corinth Canal, one of the world's tightest navigable waterways, which separates the Peloponnese Peninsula from the rest of the Greek mainland. Before the canal's completion at the end of the 19th century, ships sailing between the Adriatic and the Aegean had to circumnavigate the peninsula, adding nearly 320 km (180 mi) to their journey. The waterway is just over 6 km (4 mi) long and only 21 m (70 ft) wide. Much too narrow to accommodate modern ocean freighters, this channel now mostly services tourist ships, attracting curious visitors from around the world. • The Corinth Canal is an interesting structure-pretty deep, through him, with several bridges. Almost all tours make a stop in front of the Canal, tourists walking pass it over the bridge, making images (often both there and back). So if tour cross channel. most likely specifically to visit him. Before the bridge there are Stella devoted to his building. On 2-m photo the bridge notch-impact blast-German troops retreat at the end of the 2-nd world tried to sleep feed. From the side of the Corinthian Gulf outlet has an interesting pontoon zataplivaemyj at the time of the passage of the vessel bridge-for this you need to go here especially during tours transit time to give a little. Who will rest in Lutrakah you can and walk, not very far. Immediately after the channel has a bus terminal. The court rarely pass from 8 crossings 1 seen.
