Corinth Canal, Corinth
(4.2/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Pass through Corinth Canal, one of the world's tightest navigable waterways, which separates the Peloponnese Peninsula from the rest of the Greek mainland. Before the canal's completion at the end of the 19th century, ships sailing between the Adriatic and the Aegean had to circumnavigate the peninsula, adding nearly 320 km (180 mi) to their journey. The waterway is just over 6 km (4 mi) long and only 21 m (70 ft) wide. Much too narrow to accommodate modern ocean freighters, this channel now mostly services tourist ships, attracting curious visitors from around the world. • Interesting excursion on the famous Canal definitely underestimated by tourism, but very impressive! If you are passing it would be a shame to miss it!

  • A piece of history between the Ionian & Aegean Sea. Suggest parking close to the restaurants/shops area and walking on the bridge above the channel.
  • Several years have passed since I went with a small cruise, but I still remember very well the excitement I felt passing engine stopped and pulled by a small boat through this narrow channel. Is very impressive.
