Corinth Canal, Corinth

4.4
#1 of 79 in Parks in Peloponnese
Pass through Corinth Canal, one of the world's tightest navigable waterways, which separates the Peloponnese Peninsula from the rest of the Greek mainland. Before the canal's completion at the end of the 19th century, ships sailing between the Adriatic and the Aegean had to circumnavigate the peninsula, adding nearly 320 km (180 mi) to their journey. The waterway is just over 6 km (4 mi) long and only 21 m (70 ft) wide. Much too narrow to accommodate modern ocean freighters, this channel now mostly services tourist ships, attracting curious visitors from around the world. • Very impressive work and think that the year is made by hand and scary all the work that c is behind. Very good to do some simple photo some souvenir shop (not many) and on request you can also cross with a boat in the evening. Must be seen!!

  • A trip to the ok. 1 hour in its entirety. Very peaceful, relaxing boat ride with great views and a wonderful Greek music. The wonderful color of the water. I recommend the upper decks of the ship.

  • It's interesting to see the Corinth canal after having seen the much bigger canals in Suez and Panama. Although this is much smaller, it's nevertheless an impressive feat of engineering. Well worth st...  more »

  • What an unusual place.Plan this for a stop on your way to or from the ruins. Pictures cannot show the depth of this canal. If I were going to ever bungee jump I would seriously consider this place.
  • Everyone should get on the boat ⛵ and actually cross it from one side to the other, and back! It is possible, very fun and not too expensive! Do it, and you won't regret it! Make sure you get some Baklavas to munch and you're never get to say you're sorry...
  • This is quite an inspiring piece of engineering. It is definitely worth stopping to see, and if you're lucky, you might get to watch someone bungee jump from the bridge.
  • The canal connects the peloponnese and the rest of Greece with the Aegean Sea and have also a bungee jumping spot. A bus stop is available close to the canal, to Athens or the rest of the peloponnese.
  • Nice deep canal. I wish i can do a bungee jump here!
