Corinth Canal, Corinth

(4.2/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Pass through Corinth Canal, one of the world's tightest navigable waterways, which separates the Peloponnese Peninsula from the rest of the Greek mainland. Before the canal's completion at the end of the 19th century, ships sailing between the Adriatic and the Aegean had to circumnavigate the peninsula, adding nearly 320 km (180 mi) to their journey. The waterway is just over 6 km (4 mi) long and only 21 m (70 ft) wide. Much too narrow to accommodate modern ocean freighters, this channel now mostly services tourist ships, attracting curious visitors from around the world. • We simply turned off the highway to stop and view from the bridge down. This amazing natural creation! I believe that if there is time, then it will take literally 15 minutes, but you'll find something!)
