  • Interesting Jewish presence in Corfu's old town, competing with (fine) Orthodox churches reeds. The site itself has no monumental landmarks, but has considerable historical significance, since the core of Judaism of Corfu came from nearby Puglia, in the second half of the 16th century when the Jews were expelled from the Kingdom of Spain and of course from Italian possessions. The Jewish community of Corfu was rich and prosperous until the tragedy of World War 2, but not annihilated because even today there are approximately 200 Jews on the island. A very interesting visit from a cultural point of view

  • This functioning synagogue was very hard to find. It took us an hour but we finally got there. Lovely stained glass windows with the bima and ark inside. So nice that it is open and accessible to the ...  more »
