  • I went to visit Vido, which is suitable for tourists because of the presence of the Serbian Mausoleum. This island fronting Corfu Town on the north side. During World War I Serbian soldiers were interned and many here died; an imposing white stone mausoleum collects the remains in two wings closed with dovecotes relaxing at the sides of an altar. From 10 every morning a boat leaves every hour from the old port and door to the island for 2 € ar in less than fifteen minutes. The vision of Corfu expanse between the old and the new fortress is postcard. Wooded with a pine forest of VIDO appears very pine trees and rare eucalyptus trees. The Marina a tiled Street runs into the pine forest along the East Coast for 500 metres until the mausoleum made of white stone blocks. A central entrance with altar and two corridors that collect the niches of the fallen. A moment of meditation on wars it requires the attention of the living. The road continues towards the center island, passing through a junkyard and arrives on the Esplanade North where I find a boy scout camp committed to give him a dignified appearance. On the Esplanade in Central South a ruined environment around a House that had a certain dignity, surrounded by Palm trees died because of "Red Palm Weevil", a parasite North African who made havoc in the Mediterranean. In this squalor he found a camp of boys in primary schools; an instructor tells me not to photograph them! I finish the rounds in just over an hour and I show up to the boat traveling at 11.30

  • This Memorial to the Serb soldiers from 1938 onwards is located on the island of Vido, which with 1916 year housed a military hospital for the soldiers of the Serbian army. The island of Vido Serbs called "island of death", because it died from wounds and disease for more than five thousand Serbian soldiers, most of them buried in the sea, "Blue tomb" ("Plava grobnica). A significant monument of Serbian history!
