Old Fortress Corfu, Corfu Town
(4.4/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
Taking up a large part of a rocky peninsula renowned for its ocean views, Old Fortress Corfu is linked to the rest of the city by a fixed iron bridge. Visit the impressive site, which sits on the spot once occupied by a Byzantine structure that was largely replaced by the Venetians during the 18th century. Although the fortress rebutted three consecutive Ottoman sieges, it eventually fell under the French rule and joined the Greek territories in 1864. Before you enter, admire the marble statue in front of German general Von Schulenburg, who successfully defended the city from the last siege in 1716. • This is the visiting card of the city. Be sure to climb to the top. Great panoramic view! Planes take off and go to Posada low low. The spirit grasps! Here Russian gun, one of those, which knocked out the French from Corfu Ushakov.

  • Make sure you're wearing suitable footwear if you want to go to the top. Its a mixture of Steps & fairly steep Paths made from Marble Cobblestones & is slippy even when dry. The Panoramic views make it worth the climb & when you get back down there's the Palaio Frourio Café for refreshments overlooking the Marina.
  • Must see place if you visit Corfu Town. Really good exhibits showing a lot of the local history. The fort itself is big so plan for a good walk. Excellent views of the harbour and illustrates the amazing engineering that went into building.
  • Nice walk, can get some nice pictures. More informational stands would have been nice
  • Nice place for walk, concerts, eating at the restaurant inside the fortress. Parking is problematic during high season.
  • Simply Beautiful! Great place for a stroll and sightseeing
