  • Seen one stall seen them all. No variety same stuff in each stall. Wouldn't go out of my way to make a visit. Great if you just had dinner and to walk through. Love markets but nothing exciting.  more »
  • The market Hall of Chania is laid out in cruciform shape with a neo-classical building with an area of 4000 square meters, has the an input on the ends of the cross arms and opened in 1913. She's since 1980 under monument protection. Earlier, the shopping areas of the city were scattered. While the butcher outside the city were established fruit and vegetable traders sold their wares in the city along the roadsides. The fish market was held in the port. To consolidate trade, the Agora (market Hall) was built in the years 1911 to 1913. It was established following the French model of the market Hall in Marseille and is a landmark in Chania. Food sold in the middle of the market Hall. There was also an urban scale. The sale of meat and fish was carried out in the arms of the cross. All stands were obtained from the outside of the market. Unfortunately, the original purpose, namely to lead the trade together has been lost over time. There are still food stalls inside the and is still the trade of meat and fish in the spiral arms, but above all goods for tourists are offered. Positive small restaurants where the good Cretan cuisine at very reasonable prices can be experienced. Even if the original character is lost, a visit to the market in any case is worth.

  • Perfectly fresh place to skip the heat and do some shopping. Amazing seafood in a little restaurant inside
  • Disappointing. Prices are high, products range is poor.
  • Touristic market
  • A nice market with small restaurants inside. The food is good with all of their Greek flavors and with reasonable prices. 😊

  • Touristy but varied flavors exceptional, extensive choice to eat very well and spend less than near the port. There is a wide variety of local produce

Where to stay in Chania Town

Many package tourists on Crete stay in comfortable hotels outside Chania Town, though this lively seaport offers accommodations ranging from inexpensive hostels to five-star resorts. If you too prefer to stay out of town, consider one of the surrounding area's well-appointed villas and apartments, which provide secure parking and access to private outdoor spaces. Stick to the city's harbor area for fine shopping and dining, or check out the old town's boutique hotels for good atmosphere, friendly service, and proximity to sandy beaches.
