  • At the entrance of the harbour of Chania lies the FIRKA fortress, which was constructed by the Venetians (1204-1669) to install the local garrison and later for use as a prison death row. Later the Turks (1669-1898) used for the same purpose and installed the administration of the Division. Since then remained the name "FIRKA" which in Turkish means MERARChIA. Here on 1 December 1913 raised the Greek flag marking the UNION of CRETE with Greece mother.

  • We at the Museum during the day tour in Chania. Best funny (3 euros per adult). The place itself is clean, and lots of models of ships, ships of all history up for minhan, simulating submarine room etc. Children (small, 5 and 7) really enjoyed, ask questions and went with Barak. Recommended.

Where to stay in Chania Town

Many package tourists on Crete stay in comfortable hotels outside Chania Town, though this lively seaport offers accommodations ranging from inexpensive hostels to five-star resorts.
