  • An interesting monastery, situated in a very interesting place-a very beautiful panorama, descend to the ruins and a small cell-cave.

  • My visit to Chania was the claim on the pilgrimage, so the decision about visiting the Akrotiri peninsula was a natural. Moving by public transport (KTEL bus from Chania at Kidonias Hordaki, to Agias Triada), was limited in time and opportunities, but the road from the bus stop to Gouverneto monastery (7 km) is almost all I went on foot. In February, this is easy. In the mountains bloom profusely anemones-an extraordinary spectacle, sometimes just a multicolored carpet. Mountain road itself is very atmospheric, stunning contrasts of grey-green rocks and reddish soil with stones of different shades and shapes on it. The increased humidity of the approaching bad weather heightened the perception of subtle fragrances, istochaemyh and anemones blossoming mountain shrubs. When you sign for fence m-OC removed language and lost touch with the past and the future. You're entirely immersed in an eternal present, State, called in the Orthodox tradition the grace of Zen in the East, etc. etc. you are going through every step, every breath, every stone or flower found on the way. Inside the temple-ringing silence, surprisingly reverent atmosphere. 6 monks, glowing from within the monastic white dog kindness sderzhanye and graceful anturazhi Greek Orthodox life without frills. And lasting feeling of detachment from worldly worries on leaving the monastery, as gratitude of God for visiting his home. The approaching rain and lack of time not pozvolii move through the monastery to the sea and other shrines, but also what has been donated and openly, was enough. Return path has turned out and that miraculous. Father of Gouverneto heading Chania and took me on the road, but brought to the hotel, but not in the monastery of Hrizopigi on the outskirts of Chania, which also proved to be very promyslitel'nym and nesluchajnost' AC Pilgrim forays into Akrotiri. I must say that if it were not for the monk, I'd was drenched instantly to thread and most likely would have soaked your passport and money for travel time in the rain and waiting for the bus. In General, compared to Agias Triada Gouverneto seemed very thoughtful and focused the monastery, although visually great restraint on the part of the architecture. Inner sense told that this is the correct modesty, a truly Orthodox.

  • As of now (May 2015) the monastery is under renovation, so you'll see nothing more than the garden. Bear also in mind that the famous path to the sea behind the monastery is said to be closed (there is a notice), but everybody seems to walk it nonetheless.
  • Very nice and interesting if you arrive too early you go to other monasteries and come back later

  • This dot on the map-the monument of war 1945 (all that figured in Greek), mounted behind the fence of the monastery, at the beginning of the trail to the cave of the Virgin Females. The monastery itself-Moni Erimitou Gkouvernetou Ioannou on map (see companion). Open for visits from 8:00 up to 12:00 days. Remarkable intrinsic painting Temple!
