Technopolis, Athens

(4/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Technopolis is an industrial museum and a major cultural venue of the City of Athens, Greece, in the neighborhood of Gazi, next to Keramikos and very close to the Acropolis. It is dedicated to the memory of the great Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis, which is why it is also known as "Gazi Technopolis Manos Hatzidakis". It has been in operation since 1999 and is situated in the city's former gasworks which were founded in 1857, occupying an area of about 30.000 m2. Numerous exhibitions, seminars, music concerts and other cultural activities take place in the grounds. Eight of the buildings of the compound bear the names of famous Greek poets: Andreas Embirikos, Angelos Sikelianos, Yannis Ritsos, Kostis Palamas, Takis Papatsonis, Constantine Cavafis and Kostas Varnalis. On the second floor of the Angelos Sikelianos building is a museum dedicated to the renowned opera singer Maria Callas.

  • Back to the industrial area with this tour in the area of this former gas plant. We go from building to building where each process is clearly explained. The whole thing is very playful and offers enough space for the little ones to run without disturbing anyone.

  • interesting place in the center of Athens with an easy access. It has a museem, since it was a gas industry in old times,exhibitions,events,meet-markets, christmas activities for children, concerts. you ...  more »
  • Former industrial areas converted and renovated to cultural polygon. The old gas tanks, workshops, installations have become places of exhibitions, culture, events. Sincerely worth going there especially if there is any specific manifestation to follow. Otherwise the area is still open because they always open to the public but there's very little to see. If one has time to see a refurbished industrial archaeology can always be interesting and some pavilions still retain the old facilities like exhibition-Museum. There is also a restaurant and bar, and outdoor games for children. With an elevator (surcharge) you can climb on top of one of the buildings to have an overhead view of Athens. Open but not essential.

  • great place in a popular area of Athens that has alot of bars and restaurants .It usually has good lineups in the summer months. Jazz festivals, photography exhibitions etc
  • Vibrant and creative space, lots of events taking place in this area.
  • Gazi is a gorgeous area. Lots of new hip restaurants. The technopolis this evening had a movie show and free ice cream. Tons of people walking around. Would definitely save this for 9 pm or later.
  • Place is very lively, with markets, pop-up shops and events. Be sure to check out what is happening when you are visiting the city.
  • Campe here for the dinner in the sky restaurant and loved the area. A concert was going on beneath us and you get to see what the locals do.
