The epitome of the power and glory of ancient Greece, Parthenon serves as part of an ancient group of temples situated on a hill just above modern Athens. Undeniably one of the world's most recognizable structures, the ancient temple features some of the finest elements of Classical architecture, a style of building that has consistently influenced and inspired architects since its completion in the 5th century BCE. Although this building originally was built to honor the goddess Athena, its purpose changed several times over the centuries, and the temple successively transformed into a treasury, fortress, Christian church, and Islamic mosque. • There are no words to describe the value of this monument! Greeks have indeed one of the greatest civilisations that ever existed.
  • It's majestic to walk into a 2500 year old building from a time when civilization was still taking its first steps. There are things to be said of the architecture, the history, but my favorite story is personal. My grandfather fought here during WWII, and eventually, tired of war and tired of fighting and death, he began walking. He followed train tracks, and made his way back to his home village up in the mountains a thousand miles away in northern Greece. It's strange the ripples in time that connect us.
  • The Parthenon could definitely be one of the wonders of our world. If the building itself is impressive on first sight, if you study the details you will get astonished on how the columns are so perfectly placed and related to each other. I hope the restoration works finish so I can go back and see it in full quality.
  • Is an amazing example of Greek architecture. I would easily describe the Parthenon the most visited and crowded monument in Athens, Greece. The structure is very impressive and definitely should be a stop on your Greece list. During my visit the Parthenon was closed for walking tours for major restorations. Definitely beware of pick-pocketers throughout large tourist areas in Athens.
  • It took an exhausting walk to get to the parthenon, assuming I could enter it and enjoy my sacrifice for spending so much on a flight. Sadly, this wasn't the case. I could not enter it and it wasn't quite as satisying as I had anxiously hoped. Sure, a stunning view and a theater improved the mood, but overall, it was a forgettable experience.
  • You absolutely have to visit this place if you visit Athens. It's quite a walk to go up to the Parthenon, but you get to see a lot of other things on the way up, including two theaters, a very nice view of the city on a hill, different angels of the Parthenon, as well as some other ruins. Definitely worth a visit! But try to go when the Parthenon is not undergoing any face lifts
