  • This is the complex of sports facilities that hosted the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Is located in Marousi, northeast of Athens. The complex includes five great locations plus other additional facilities: the Olympic Stadium, where games were played also the opening and closing ceremonies of the games of 2004, now used by the football team of AEK. Nikos Galis Olympic Indoor Hall, arena used for basketball and artistic gymnastics competitions, used in 2006 for the 51° Eurovision Song Contest; and then the Aquatic Centre, Velodrome and Tennis Center. The entire sports complex had previously hosted the Mediterranean Games in 1991, the World Championship in athletics in 1997 and other major sporting and cultural events. For the games of 2004 had been renewed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The complex can be reached by the Metro stations "Neratziotissa" and "Irini", with the suburban train or with direct bus lines A7 (Kaniggos-Kifissia), 602 (n. Ionia-Panormou Metro station), 550 (Faliro-Kifissia Kalogreza). Thank you for reading this review. I've written more about Athens, London, Rome, Milan. • Visit the Olympic Stadium 10-15 times a year either escorting others either for personal reasons. The area has many places that are impressive and imposing as the stage and road with archways. In some parts of it (such as this to the side of Metro station) there is difficulty in parking. I would suggest to visitors of Athens (Greek and foreign), to go for a ride up there. If accompanied by someone who knows the area will have the opportunity to see a particular side of Athens. Ideal periods in autumn and spring. It's not a place that pays to visit a warm summer day. The vast concrete surfaces combined with the lack of greenery and shade in very difficult situation.

  • Maybe the biggest legacy of the 2004 Olympic games. Great place for walks, cycling, skating, running & kids play. Maybe someday the Greek administration will finally realise its exploitation value and start maintaining it, along with the rest of the Olympic facilities.
  • Really nice and spacious place for many activities. Though it is abandoned, (no water in the fountain and lakes) it is worth a visit.
  • Very nice. Just getting in bad condition slowly.
  • The architecture is magnificent, the only downside is that after the 2004 Olympic games had kind of got a bit abandoned
  • It had better days
