  • You travelers, deserves to be seen architecturally and politically. The latter view as sobering as a world event like an Olympics can be a huge cost to a city and then a similar structure is impossible to maintain. Easy to get to. The subway takes you inside (Irini station green line towards Kifissia). No cost. You can walk outside the few facilities still functioning. My advice is to bring some water because there are no bars in the surroundings and to shoot in broad daylight being very isolated.

  • I went with metro to Irini because i want to see this olympic stadium from 2004 and it was not difficult to find it only 50 meters from stop of metro. I go around here helpless in 1 hour and was a kin...  more »
  • Nice feelings to be at the center of Athens Olympics 2004. Strange that the administration is not maintaining or promoting this as a regular tourist attraction of Athens. The architecture and the vast...  more »

  • The Athletic complex has many beautifully built buildings that the architects really did a great job with but I don't think that they have been maintaining these beauties. You can see the rust, and most of the time the complex seems like it's abandoned despite the foot traffic that can be seen here on the weekly basis. The thing this is a nice place to walk and just look over the nice buildings or even get a workout in because the complex is enormous with Futbol stadium, basketball area, swimming pool arena and few more buildings.
  • The place is rusty and falling apart. A few private businesses give a bit of life in this deserted place, where the Olympic games ceremony was held in 2004.
  • Great place to be!!! Good positive vibes, athletic vibes, healthy living vibes!
  • I watched the basketball game of panathinaikos bc vs barchelona bc!the greek team won so i was happy!also for my friend nikos pappas who is an awesome player and giannis bourousis!
  • Nice place and scenery built for the olympuc games.

Where to stay in Athens

If you come to Athens for its ancient history, stay in Plaka, a lively neighborhood located within walking distance of the city's major archaeological sites. Although relatively expensive, hotels in this part of town offer spacious rooms, private swimming pools, and rooftop cocktail bars. For less expensive but equally comfortable lodgings, consider boutique hotels and family-run inns in the quiet residential neighborhoods just a short drive south of Plaka. Good rooms fill up early in the season, so plan ahead and book in advance.
