Numismatic Museum, Athens
(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Offering an alternative way to discover Greek history, Numismatic Museum holds one of the world's largest collections of ancient and modern coins. Over half a million artifacts narrate the history of Athens from the 14th century BCE to the present day. In addition to coins, the museum displays thousands of medals and stamps, which come from various excavation sites in mainland Greece. The Neo-classical building, once a private home of celebrated archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, remains a major draw for architecture buffs. Spend some of your own modern coins in the shady cafe located in the museum garden. Plan your visit to Numismatic Museum and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Athens trip itinerary maker.

  • An interesting Museum. I would like more exhibits. There are Russian pre-revolutionary coins. The building itself is also interesting, the inside is very beautiful.

  • This museum was much better than expected. The coins are in really good condition and they have a wide range of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine. Highly interesting, so I can recommend this if you find coins fascinating!
  • The museum is not for everyone but the cafe outside the museum is simply fantastic! One of the best places to take a break in central Athens.
  • Magnificent interior decoration of the building which once belonged to Schliemann. Very informative exhibition of coins, money and history of monetary system. You can visit a cafe at the back of the museum. Very special feeling.
  • Great garden serving coffee and beverages inside a traditional building in the center of Athens.
  • has a nice coffe shop
