Numismatic Museum, Athens

(120 reviews on the web)
History Museum
Offering an alternative way to discover Greek history, Numismatic Museum holds one of the world's largest collections of ancient and modern coins. Over half a million artifacts narrate the history of Athens from the 14th century BCE to the present day. In addition to coins, the museum displays thousands of medals and stamps, which come from various excavation sites in mainland Greece. The Neo-classical building, once a private home of celebrated archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, remains a major draw for architecture buffs. Spend some of your own modern coins in the shady cafe located in the museum garden. Plan your visit to Numismatic Museum and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Athens trip itinerary maker.

  • Excellent building extremely restored. Preserves original 19th-century picture in the capital. Par in the Museum organization and sufficient in exhibits.

  • Schliemann's House is more impressive than his own exhibits. I would not say that it takes more than an hour. Worth a visit as it is unique.

  • In the mansion of Schliemann, the whole history of the coin. And only the familiar to compensate, but the reports is very good, with two comments. To correct the lighting in the halls to the University. The notes are very low mounted and must crouch to pathways. And employees (that is not few) let us train a little. Don't have time to do a question to a young and we responded immediately "I have no idea". E, to obtain

  • This museum was much better than expected. The coins are in really good condition and they have a wide range of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine. Highly interesting, so I can recommend this if you find coins fascinating!
  • The museum is not for everyone but the cafe outside the museum is simply fantastic! One of the best places to take a break in central Athens.
  • Magnificent interior decoration of the building which once belonged to Schliemann. Very informative exhibition of coins, money and history of monetary system. You can visit a cafe at the back of the museum. Very special feeling.
  • Great garden serving coffee and beverages inside a traditional building in the center of Athens.
  • has a nice coffe shop
