  • It is worth walked on his statues in very good state of conservation. If you like history and particularly the history of the emperor Hadrian is one visit obliged this place.

  • The Museum is very small, but it is worthwhile to pay the entrance fee to see the temple that is located in the same premises

  • The best part, I think, is the fantastic reconstruction of the stoa - gives you a real feel for the place. Originally built in the 2nd century BC and reconstructed completely in the 1950's The museum ...  more »

  • Only had an hour to see it but it was not enough! There are a lot of really nice paths and you can definitely take your time and enjoy the natural surroundings. The main site it the Temple of Hephaestus. The Agora museum is good if a bit small. The staff were really good about shuffling people out at closing time while still respecting the fact that most people are tourists and just want a quick picture.
  • Fairly well kept ruin with lots to see. Temple of Hephaestus is the best kept temple around and is stunning. Completely rebuilt Stoa is impressive too
  • Wonderful sense of history and how the ancient Athenians lived. The artefacts are amazing and give an insight into life in Athens over the centuries. Great views and particularly of the Parthenon.
  • The Athenian Agora is a fascinating archaeological site, with labels explaining what was once located there, as well as a few descriptive display boards. The Stoa of Attalos is completely reconstructed to show what it was once like, the upstairs houses a number of sculpture and models of the site, but has no wheel chair access. The south entrance we used to the Ancient Agora had no wheelchair access, but there was another north entrance, so not sure if that does? However there was no wheel chair access to the temple of Hephaestus.
  • Absolutely breathtaking and beautiful ancient ruins. The Agora is so large that the high number of tourists does not diminish the experience. Amazing.

Where to stay in Athens

If you come to Athens for its ancient history, stay in Plaka, a lively neighborhood located within walking distance of the city's major archaeological sites. Although relatively expensive, hotels in this part of town offer spacious rooms, private swimming pools, and rooftop cocktail bars. For less expensive but equally comfortable lodgings, consider boutique hotels and family-run inns in the quiet residential neighborhoods just a short drive south of Plaka. Good rooms fill up early in the season, so plan ahead and book in advance.
