  • If you do not specifically to visit, you will find it with astonishment, almost swallowed, between franchised shop signs. But she, despite rises to 60 cm. lower than the current roadway, emerges with arrogance, in all its former glory. Enter from a small door (beware the hidden step into darkness). The polychrome brick floor, whites and blacks guides us, head up, the frescoes on the vaults, partly restored, in part, unfortunately compromised by time. The Bell Tower is dedicated to Saint Barbara. In my opinion, the most beautiful Orthodox Church visited in Athens. Forbidden to photograph. Free entrance.

  • gorgeous little tiny church with fascinating interior. No photos allowed (or even sketching!) Grumpy lady guards the church, but it's a beautiful place and still holds worship services.  more »
  • I only saw him from the outside walking around in the city. It is a beautiful building that contrasts with the neighborhood. Really very nice (I like this type of architecture, Byzantine). Visit free (but feel free to drop off a few euros).

  • A very old church, kinda perfectly out of place in Ermou street.
  • This little Greek Orthodox church is one of the oldest churches in Athens, built around AD 1050. It's located close to Emau St and Plaka and within view of the Acropolis. Inside are some beautiful murals and icons. It's free to the public and definitely worth the few minutes it takes to walk thru it.
  • A typical and old orthodox church in the middle of pedestrian street of Ermou, you cant miss it!
  • This church was a very nice random find while strolling through the small streets of the area. It really is beautiful.
  • Typical Athens street view, both old and new seamless together.
