  • Interesting to see the butchers and fish mongers at this wholesale market. Huge selection. Not really a tourist destination unless you’re really interested in this sort of thing.

  • Amazing market place! Many kinds of fish and meat offered by crazy (in a good way) and shouting sellers. Some of them, unfortunately, aren't Greeks so it's difficult to communicate with them in another language than their native. Very good quality products! You'll enjoy it.
  • Great place for get really fresh food. Amazing prices nice atmosphere. If you don't have a kitchen while staying in Athens you can still buy fruits and vegetables likes olives. Cheap but very tasty. Or you eat directly at the market. Nice place, good idea going there.
  • A good more local experience outside of the touristic center. Mostly meat and fish in the indoor section, but one can also find olives and cheeses across the street. Feel free to try different types of olives and then when you buy, ask them to vacuum pack them for you (for an additional euro charge).
  • As part of a food tour with Julia(airbnb experiences) my group and I were able to tour this market. It was wonderful to walk through the streets that the community walks to purchase their produce. People were very nice and all meats looked fresh. We did not purchase items but walk through. This reminded me of the markets in Mexico.
  • I just love Municipal markets. It's one of best ways to understand locals. How do they eat. What do they buy. What are the prices. I've understood that despite some products that are heavily consumed in Greece (lamb, for example), their diet is very mediterranean, the prices are lower than in Portugal, and their purchasing habits are very much like ours. It's not a "clean" place (no market is such), but I really liked the smells, the atmosphere, the brightness of the market. Oh, and we actually felt very secure inside. Nice place!
