  • passing by the Athenian buildings built in the 19th century: University, Academy and library, with marble columns and sculptures. stylish, like all around. Athens Academy complex consists of the central part, two lateral wings decorated with friezes, and two columns in front of the façade, crowned by statues of Apollo and Athena. The Academy building was built by architect Teofilom Hanson from 1859 to 1887 years. The statues are made by sculptor l. Drosisom, a painting by Carl Admiral. Originally, before the opening of the Academy building was used as a Numismatic Museum and then there was the Byzantine Museum and State archives. The Academy building is considered the best example of the Greek architectural style and is one of the attractions of the city. Finally, March 24, 1926, the building was given to the newly established Academy of Athens Academy today supports 14 research centres, 10 research offices and the "Ioannis Sikutris Central Library". In 2002, the Fund was founded for biomedical research of the Academy of Athens. Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and post-Byzantine Studies in Venice also work under the supervision of the Academy
