Caves of Diros, Areopoli
(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Explore the series of natural underground waterways at Caves of Diros, the source for many Palaeolithic and Neolithic artifacts now housed in a museum. Take a boat tour to access the tunnels of caves, dramatically lit from within. Traverse below the thousands of stalactites that hang from the domed caved roof as you wend your way through. Though a guide drives the boat, little commentary is offered, leaving room for silence and inspiration. Arrive early to avoid waiting in line, and note the attraction may not be for those who suffer from claustrophobia. Caves of Diros is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Areopoli Edition.

  • Pleasant visit more than his money's worth to visit in the morning at the opening of the caves. A tip will stay in the nearby hotel Panorama.

  • Beautiful caves with interesting boat trip. Though pricey. SA has not told nothing, but carried out by cranky. Downside, but does nothing to the caves.

  • A must see! I would recommend that you go in the morning as they sometimes close early. Originally I went as a child I though it was amazing, 30 years later my memories do it justice. If you are in th...  more »

  • Not for people who get claustrophobic!! Otherwise an amazing experience to boat/walk through the caves!
  • Really worth the trip. The caves experience is a mixed boating and walking tour in a huge area underneath the mountains just outside Areopolis. Went in September on a Friday around 11am, and there was no queue at all, but I can understand that there are frequently queues of up to 45mins to get in. €12 for adults €8 for kids Open from June-September 8.30am-5.30pm October-May 8.30am-3pm
  • The tour on the boat was very fast and hard to take any pictures, but it was incredible to view the caves. At the end you did get to walk through part of the cave and take pictures.
  • Amazing, awesome and stunning. Real big watercaves, to be visited by boats. But also a big cave are the parts to go by foot to the cave's yetty.
  • Went to the caves last week of July 2016. VERY DISAPPOINTED. It is a shame that such a wonderful place to visit yet they are soooooooo disorganised that 80% of people would never go back. Arrived there just before 11:30am after a three hour drive to reach our destination, and we were told that they were not selling anymore tickets as they didn't have enough boat drivers to accommodate the boats...>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We had gone there with our friends so they could see what a beautiful place the caves are. As my husband my kids and I had visited those breathtaking caves in 1988. My friends my husband and I, are from Australia. And was looking so much forward in showing this place to our friends. It was a very hot day indeed, and disappointed people everywhere. Some people had come from Thesaloniki with a bus tour, yet they couldn't go in. I told the people at the counter that I would write my reviews. We have the best country in the world. Yet only if people and the government do things different so people keep coming back. We were also told that they had 20 boat drivers to accommodate the high demand of all the tourists and because the government wasn't paying them they didn't want to work anymore. So only 5 drivers were left. Disgusted Mr Tsipra. Shame on you.
