Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach), Anafonitria

The jewel of the Ionian Sea, Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach) sits as an exposed cove famed for its crystal clear water and the skeleton of an abandoned merchant shipthat's been rusting away on the white sand since 1982. The beach stretches along the northwestern shore of Zakynthos, an area defined by its sheer limestone cliffs. The turquoise water lapping against the sandy beach attracts thousands of swimmers, snorkelers, and divers, many of which arrive by cruise ships from nearby ports. For panoramic vistas of this beach, bring along some drinking water and head to the nearby village of Anafonitria, famous for its viewing platform that hangs on the edge of a steep cliff. • Are you on Zakynthos, I recommend a boat trip to this ship, the boat trip along the coast is so beautiful with all the caves and the turquoise water. The ship is not much to see but in the amazing beautiful place it is located on is worth a visit.

  • It's a beautiful sea. We reached there a great boat, on the way we passed these shores so beautiful. Not navagio Beach, sand and gravel. Because of the hard ground to walk and sunbathing, but not great, very clear and cold sea. It is a very popular place and wide crowd. You can take a cold beverage and sandwich

  • This is the most beautiful place in the world! If you are on Zakinthos visit it. You will never ever regret!
  • Most amazing place in the world.... And the sea really is that colour
  • Famous beach, many tourists and ships but very spectacular views
  • Brilliant beach, but in the season overcrowded. Tourist are coming on big ships quite often. It is good to pay some local fisherman to take you there in the early morning. Sea here is really cold, but nicely colored. Shipwreck is quite large.
  • Navagio Beach (Greek: Ναυάγιο, pronounced [naˈvaʝo]), or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as "Smugglers Cove", on the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Navagio Beach was originally known as Agios Georgios. On 2 October 1980, a freightliner, the MV Panagiotis, ran aground in the waters around Zakynthos Island on Navagio Beach during stormy weather and bad visibility. It has been rumored the ship was smuggling contraband such as cigarettes, wine and women. The ship was abandoned and still rests buried in the limestone gravel of the beach that now bears the nickname Shipwreck.
