  • the trip up there is something strenuous, and there are a great many places with the finest views. Though one-as I have some fear of heights, it all pays off. A very exciting place, and a shrine that is certainly worth visiting.

  • Who are interested in the Byzantine culture or want to meet only a quite extraordinary monastic architecture, should make this site not to be missed. This radiant white monastery acts as if it were glued to the mountain – you can hardly imagine how it has can build it before many centuries without the today's technical possibilities there. One of the laymen who work there told me that - although from the cliffs falling daily Pebble on the monastery grounds - but never someone had been taken by one such stone. It is a place whose Spiritualität is felt even today. A visit where countless icons - but also with the ancient icon, the Mary with the child and once from the Holy Country entered this monastery - the Church is strongly recommended; for women and men who wear sporty clothes on your hike, garments are provided in the entrance area, where they can adequately there move during her visit of the dignity of the place.

  • Monastery built on a rock cliff. 300 stairs to go up but the view is awesome! You should also wear trousers or long dress.
  • Breathtaking! Must visit, whatever religion you believe or not. Strict rules about the appropriate clothing. Bring yours otherwise long clothes will be given to you there, not so clean. Rocky steps about a quarter of walking. Monastery closes at 19.00 but still the place is visitable. It's 300 metres high from the sea. Name taken from Hozova place of Palestin. It was built around 900 a.c. Awesome view, excellent stuff serves local raki

Where to stay in Amorgos

While Amorgos boasts a number of hotels and other lodging options, the best way to experience the culture of the island (at the best price) is to rent a room in a guesthouse or shared home. These possibilities are available in both of the major port cities on the island, Katapoula and Aeigali. Aeigali is also home to the island's campgrounds and several complexes with rooms for rent. If you prefer to stay inland, consider the hilltop village of Hora, one of the most scenic spots on the island, with lovely rooms and other self-catering accommodations.
