Red Beach, Akrotiri

3.0
#1 of 6 in Outdoors in Akrotiri
Famous for its red rock formations, Red Beach sits just steps from the site of an ancient Minoan settlement destroyed by a volcanic eruption and buried in ash around 1627 BCE. Blue waters lapping this beach create a striking contrast with the all-red landscape of the surrounding steep cliffs, which offer unobstructed views of the sea and the curving coastline. The small beach attracts hundreds of visitors each day, creating a lively resort atmosphere well into the evening hours. Two small cafes, cut into the volcanic cliffs just a short walk from the beach, offer cold drinks and light snacks. • We made the trip to the Red Beach by boat with a crew of 4 people!. The place is simply paradise. The beauty was marked in my mind. Worth the visit.

  • We have been to this beach after a visit to the Akrotiri archaeological site, very interesting and well maintained. You Park not too far, but there is a piece on foot not so comfortable, you have to go on the rocks slippery enough, so proper shoes. The beach is quite small and overcrowded if like us, you arrive in the late morning. To get away from the hustle and bustle we decided to take a small motorized boat that offered the three coves: Red Beach, white beach and Black Beach. Beautiful! We could see the sea these beautiful formations of various colors and we also stopped an hour on white beach. Very few people, transparent and clean blue sea, many rocks though!

  • This is easily combined with a visit to the nearby Akrotiri Archeological Site. There is a small church here and then it's about a 10 minute walk to the beach. Don't expect too much from the beach - a...  more »

  • Very cool...but difficult to get to.
  • Very scenic & pretty red beach. Sheltered by a red cliff. The ocean water is refreshing and the coarse, rocky sand is BLAZING HOT on your feet. Be warned!
  • No worth to be there.
  • Full of people...
  • Go forward to the South end of the island of Perivolostan Akrotiri, you will find information about a fork in the road when you scroll in the direction. The sandy beach at Red Beach red one of y and the other Sarah is also interested in a historical setting. from the Hill on the island that summer heat effect and the reason I chose the red beach with be browned, but here, too, I'm not going to be a little more by walking and don't think you have to park way over A Ridge with all the interesting Red Beach. Indeed, the red one the beach goes really surprise and attracts attention. I would recommend you to see.
