  • If you love old monasteries, mus and! It is a long abandoned monastery. Get some still quite good. This place has a special atmosphere. (Mystic - romantic). Driving up to the monastery "Moni Gouvernetou" drive on the Akrotiri peninsula. There, you can park and then takes the route to the "Moni Katholiko", passed on the goat huts, at the bear's den and a rock Church. Away is something arduous, especially the way back. It's pretty steep upward. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Down the beach we have unfortunately no longer dared to the climbing. However, I am glad to have been there!

  • I state that the monastery I visited, I always preferred walking to the baptismal font and the tomb of Saint John. Recommend long pants and covered shoulders for women, you have to cross the main monastery which is a sacred place and we need to be respectful. The hike is downhill (then uphill on the way back so watch out if you legs hurt!) and in stages, the first one is the cave with a kind of natural baptismal, outside the ruins of stone buildings and a beautiful view, then you start to walk to get almost to sea level where according to legend, buried St. John the hermit (although who knows where) , spiritual and mystical place, almost intact and seems to have stepped back centuries if not for some rubbish left by the usual rude tourists, one can also get to the third stage of level rocks and admire the ancient port, lately called ' Beach ' but it is not easy nor recommended to bathe. A brisk walk, I don't recommend to children (the cave) but also with teenagers things to be careful because there are several dangerous spots. The times don't know them but once you are on the path the monastery always allows you to exit (better ask, may change in the future). I went with a child of 5 years, always kept to hand and still constantly under control, had fun even though the return climb the tired a lot (and not just him). A place almost untouched, other times with a beautiful view. Don't go with flip flops or slippers!

  • Amazing ruins and a 1 hour hike down to the sea where you can dive from rocks into the water.
  • A place where you can find total silence with only the sounds of nature

  • The oldest monastery on Crete, now abandoned. You can only walk on a paved trail, sometimes quite steep for 25-30 minutes. With trails enjoys beautiful views of the sea
