Akrotiri LightHouse, Akrotiri

(4.2/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
One of the oldest lighthouses in Greece, Akrotiri LightHouse still stands as a sentinel on Santorini. A French trading company built the square structure in 1892 and operated it with oil, but the beacon switched to electricity in 1988. Wear closed-toed shoes to safely climb the rocky hill, and when you're finished, consider a meal at one of the surrounding fish taverns. Bring your camera to take advantage of the many photo ops here, which are especially gorgeous at sunset. Using our custom trip planner, Akrotiri attractions like Akrotiri LightHouse can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Beside the lighthouse, there is a road reaching the cliff side and we can stand on the cliff to enjoy the amazing view of volcano! For those who is afraid of height, you may need to be careful.  more »
  • You log on to the lighthouse with a short walk, the cliffs all around offers breathtaking views of the caldera and the sea. We loved it!

  • The lighthouse is located south-west, after Akrotiri village, and it is worth visiting because of the wonderful view you can get on the caldera. The lighthouse cannot be entered because it is property...  more »

  • Beautiful view of the sunset, but the secret is out on this place. Lots of cars/ATVs parked along the narrow road leading to the lighthouse for sunset, making for a very crowded place. You essentially have to sit on the volcanic rocks to watch the sunset, so once all of the good sitting areas are taken, it becomes a standing room affair. Good for a quick stop, but leave your wine at home.
  • Great place to visit for a nice view of both sides of the water. You can go down and explore to get closer to the left for the best photo. At night the light is really cool to watch and see it hit the water.
  • A beautiful place to watch the sunset and not very crowded. Leave the car parked before reaching the lighthouse becaouse the closer you get, the more crowded it becomes. I loved it as everything is raw, no garbage, lots of space, beautiful view, rocks, nature, water and sun.
  • Nice view of thr sea and beautiful sunsets. The building is closed. Bring good walking slhoes as the path to the cliff has rocks.
  • Very nice views. Nothing special about the lighthouse, but I came for the views. Leave your car before you get to the lighthouse, as there isn't much space there.
