  • St. Spyridon is the patron of the city of Corfu. Indeed, the inhabitants of this city have made a beautiful church which is the symbol of the city itself. The Bell Tower is quite impressive and his Italian renaissance style, as its interior. of course even if there's not the austere style of Byzantine icons of the continental Greece, however, Byzantium is well present in regards to icons. There is also the marble sculpture, which is quite rare in the Greek temples. In this church, you will also find the relics of Saint Spyridon. As the inhabitants of Corfu are attached to this saint, there are processions four times per year. Singing is polyphonic and it looks like Western music. Indeed it is the adaptations of the Byzantine rite in the Western polyphony, made by polykrates. It is the only known Church that sings with this type of music in Greece, attempts have been made in the Greece Mainland to emulate this type of singing and have failed. In addition, they have a small organ that is perhaps unique to an Orthodox mass. In our opinion, the visit of this church will complement your idea that you can have on this city that is very different compared to other of the Greece

  • Corfu Town is characterized by the once Italian influence. Countless cafés, arcades and linen on the lines in the streets. The Church of St. Spyridon is already very Greek. She is not very tall and dark, but the icons are finely lit. A visit is interesting, reflective, but not long.
