Natural History Museum Museum
Built over the remains of a Moorish bathhouse, The Gibraltar Museum houses various collections that shed light on Gibraltar's millennia-old natural history and cultural heritage. General Sir Alexander Godley, a former governor of Gibraltar, established the museum in 1930. See the 8 m (26 ft) long scale model of the Rock, made in 1865; walk through rooms with reconstructed prehistoric landscapes and caves; and see a Neanderthal coming alive through a forensic reconstruction from skulls and fossil remains. You'll also learn about the seven centuries of Moorish rule, the Great Siege, and the British period. It's worth taking a guide, considering the displays are static and not very engaging on their own. Using our international travel planner, Gibraltar attractions like The Gibraltar Museum can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • A variety of exhibits of Gibraltar through the ages. Cheap to enter and enough to see in about an hour. Neanderthal models at the entrance are wonderful!  more »
  • The Museum does not look big on the outside, its not until you go inside and underground, through various passages you realise how big it is. On entering you meet Flint and his grandma, and throughout...  more »
  • Excellent little Museum full of some interesting history. For me it was well worth a visit. Good for an hour or two. Something to see and do apart from The Rock  more »

  • An excellent all around museum exploring many various areas of Gibraltar's rich history and culture. Exhibits include Neanderthals on the rock, the British and Moorish conquests and local wildlife. One of the true highlights was the beautifully preserved 13th century Moorish baths. Definitely worth a visit!
  • Too small of an exhibition
  • The Bomb House Lane address is correct but the marker on the map is well outside this central location. Great museum as the military history is so continuous. The Neardertal Women should be better known. The old moorish baths worth a look.
  • Good
  • Cave complexes Gorham-Gibraltar along the Eastern Rocky Mountains cave 4 Gibraltar 28,000 years history. This is also known as home to the last of the Neanderthals. Archaeologists in the caves can learn about how the ancient people hunt, dress and living.
