Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, Senya Beraku

4.2
#4 of 16 in Wildlife in Ghana
See people and monkeys living in harmony at Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary. The village is home to around 700 very friendly and curious Colobus and Mona monkeys. Feed the monkeys--who will more eagerly approach you--and watch them as they play. If you wish to extend your stay, inquire about the sanctuary's onsite accommodations. Be careful when driving here, since the road has many bumps and can be quite bad in spots. • The ride from Sunyani was not easy , the road really bad and google map even got lost but when we finally made it, it was really worth it. The monkeys are really part of the community and were visible...  more »
  • Very good site to see the monkeys living in freedom and enjoy some hiking in the jungle. The entrance costs 30 cedis per person. We stayed one night at the guesthouse 30 cedis x 2persons, sleeps fine no noise in a room with mosquito nets in the beds. This remote bath and shower very simple but so great that gives taste! Monkeys approach sometimes but if not given food are environmentally friendly. The Cook prepared us two huge plates of rice with tomato 20 cedis. In the garden there is a fountain which come all children of the surroundings by bike to fill their buckets of water. It is passed there time of perfect relaxation, we would last there more time have predicted more provisions for meals.

  • The reserve is not so easy to find. We came with the own car from Techiman and drove from the South coming over the Nkoranza after Boabeng. We had to ask ourselves through to arrive at last at the "monkey village". At the end of the village, a sign shows that it has arrived. Entry payment in a bare room. Then, you can buy peanuts and bananas to feed the Mona monkey. Whether this is so useful, is. Are wild animals that are habituated by feeding on the one hand, on the other hand you can get only this really close to the monkeys, which already fearlessly walk through decades of tradition through the village. Why, the peanuts in small surely must be packed, defies my understanding. But the monkeys are approaching fearlessly each visitor that keeps peanuts in his hand. Some grab frantically after others are fragile. Without difficulties, you're soon surrounded by a dozen monkeys. The living also in large numbers in the protected area of anteLope that feed on leaves, are harder to track down. The trip is rounded off by a visit to the cemetery of monkeys hidden in the forest. The journey seems easier to fashion than of South from the North. The trip is always worthwhile.
