Aburi Botanical Gardens, Accra

#2 of 7 in Parks in Accra
Opened in 1890 on the site of a former sanatorium for colonial officials, Aburi Botanical Gardens now represents a popular picnic spot. Take a guided tour to learn how colonial settlers from Europe introduced new plants into Ghana, and what methods they used to encourage cocoa and rubber production in the area. • Although a nice place, it could use some maintenance and cleanliness to make it more attractive for tourists, locals and foreigners. There could also be more signs explaining the kind of trees and plants in the garden. The carved tree is a very nice feature of the garden, but needs more explanation on what it means. In general terms it is a nice place and worth a visit.
  • The Aburi Gardens were an oasis of peace and calm just a short drive up the hills from Accra. Cool and lovely, a combination of wild forest and tended lawns and gardens and plantations. It was fascinating trying to identify many of the types of plants in the area, and just so beautiful. We looked for the famous crashed helicopter but didn't find it, so I know we only wandered around a small part of the total.
  • History, nature at it's best. Beautiful and serene. However, much need to be done for such a beautiful place to continue to attract tourist. Please can you give attention to the dilapidated buildings, they can be used as inns and restaurants thereby generating income. Invite private investors if the state cannot do it.
  • Serene beautiful environment... Diverse vegetation, a botanists dreamland. Ice cream booth available too. Great place.
  • Really serene, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. You can actually hear the sounds of nature. More garden chairs should be provided though, and they should be cleaned regularly. The ones there currently are quite dirty
