Alte Mainbruecke, Wurzburg
(4.7/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries, Alte Mainbruecke serves as one of Wurzburg's iconic landmarks. The 185 m (607 ft) arched causeway spans the river Main in the heart of the old city. In the distance, you'll spy the town's spires on one side and the Marienburg Fortress on the other. The 12 detailed, sandstone statues of saints adorning the length of the bridge were added during the Baroque era. The structure was partially destroyed by retreating German troops in 1945. Its faithful reconstruction used materials from a nearby quarry. Put Alte Mainbruecke at the forefront of your travel plans using our Wurzburg vacation planner.

  • An unmissable attraction for lovers of wine. Arrive a little before sundown, buy your glass of wine (save the chump change to the refund on return of empty glass), and enjoy the view walking on the bridge. It gets pretty crowded, but very worth it!

  • "This bridge is the Saints praise things for the icing on the cake is the way people..." and said had. But the people gathered. But well, I was one of them. "Dom" look far back "Marienburg".

  • Lots of activity going on at the bridge and a great setting on the river (of course). Lots of wine drinkers and people strolling and enjoying the day.

  • It's one of a kind in Germany. When there is good weather you can get a glass of wine directly sold out of a window and mingle on the bridge. Very friendly atmosphere, very nice location, not too crowded. Along the riverside nearby (less than 100 meters) are several locations with outstanding food and fine drinks (beer).
  • Nice place, rather expensive. I prefer to get a glass of wine there, maybe bun with 3 Nuernberger sausages and hang around. If on budget, walk off the bridge towards town, to nearest supermarket, grab bear or bottle of wine, and get back to river for nice picknick
  • Stunning bridge over the river Main, you can watch people kayak and transverse the river course.
  • Really liked the vibe, great view of the city and many giant fishes in the water. really brought the inner child of me :) one of the personal highlight in Würtzburg
  • Nice historical Bridger with a very good view other the 'Main'
