Alte Mainbruecke, Wurzburg

(1,000+ reviews on the web)
Bridge
Constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries, Alte Mainbruecke serves as one of Wurzburg's iconic landmarks. The 185 m (607 ft) arched causeway spans the river Main in the heart of the old city. In the distance, you'll spy the town's spires on one side and the Marienburg Fortress on the other. The 12 detailed, sandstone statues of saints adorning the length of the bridge were added during the Baroque era. The structure was partially destroyed by retreating German troops in 1945. Its faithful reconstruction used materials from a nearby quarry. Put Alte Mainbruecke at the forefront of your travel plans using our Wurzburg vacation planner.

  • This bridge is also a must for a Würzburg visit. One of three bridges with figures of the Saints - similar to only slightly shorter than the Charles Bridge in Prague. Only walking accessible from the Western side of the main the best photo views of the old town. Cyclists should slide. City-side, a glass of wine is a way must have in the local wine bar... Stop for a meal in the main mill also has a further attraction. Good photo look to the fortress from there

  • We are told this is the oldest bridge in Germany. Regardless if it is or not it's still a wonderful historic spot great for having a glass of wine and people watching over the lovely Main River  more »
  • In the afternoon on the bridge, in the Sun, an Aperol genießen...Einfach super. Only, many tourists are there (like ich☺). Still super fun

  • It's one of a kind in Germany. When there is good weather you can get a glass of wine directly sold out of a window and mingle on the bridge. Very friendly atmosphere, very nice location, not too crowded. Along the riverside nearby (less than 100 meters) are several locations with outstanding food and fine drinks (beer).
  • Nice place, rather expensive. I prefer to get a glass of wine there, maybe bun with 3 Nuernberger sausages and hang around. If on budget, walk off the bridge towards town, to nearest supermarket, grab bear or bottle of wine, and get back to river for nice picknick
  • Stunning bridge over the river Main, you can watch people kayak and transverse the river course.
  • Really liked the vibe, great view of the city and many giant fishes in the water. really brought the inner child of me :) one of the personal highlight in Würtzburg
  • Nice historical Bridger with a very good view other the 'Main'
