Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz, Worlitz

(4.7/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz, a 142 sq km (55 sq mi) garden of "orderly wilderness" influenced by Enlightenment ideals of order and rationality, was built after two buddies' late-18th-century road trip. Duke Leopold III of Anhalt-Dessau and his friend, architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, had just returned from a tour of Italy, the Netherlands, England, France, and Switzerland, and they were inspired by the naturalistic landscape gardens at Stourhead Gardens and Ermenonville. That inspiration led them to build this garden. Today, you can walk, bike, and even ride horses through the park's green meadows, shady woods, and around placid lakes and rivers. Gondolas and ferries sit on the water, inviting you for a peaceful tour. Several small palaces and chateaus stand among the greenery, open to visitors and complete with their original 18th-century furnishings and Rococo paintings. • Were spontaneously here. Us very liked it! The little gossip-bootsführerinnen were sometimes about it but also it was entertaining.

  • We had a very good private tour here. The system is great and invites you to linger. Great sightlines, magnificent trees and shrubs. Again happy to!

  • Still a little in the slumber which makes pleasant garden and the region. In winter, a detour worth exploring all the loving and well kept details of the landscape garden in a walk. The buildings are closed in January. It emits a cute Christmas market, in which the first advent wreath candle light, not learn the winter fairies on a weekend in December. Who likes landscape gardens and believed in Wörlitz you can go past or way too far, this is a mistake. And Wörlitz, love to stick a ticket on the car, the only tour with next arrival on a Sunday, at 7 degrees minus, a broken parking meters, has not really something inviting.
