Historic Site
Explore the cradle of West German coal mining at LWL-Industriemuseum Zeche Nachtigall, an important industrial heritage site preserving one of the first deep mining shafts in the country, sunk in 1839. See the engine house with its still-operable steam engine and marvel at the huge rectangular chimney of the boiler house, which, after the coal was exhausted, converted into a brick factory. • A very interesting slice of history. The tour and museum give some interesting insights into the working conditions experienced by the miners and brick makers that worked there.
  • Nice Museum. All like my children. It is explained well and clearly. In the rear part there is a small water playground. At the entrance there is a small restaurant with tasty food (quiche and so...)

  • Like as "Ur-mine", even a gallery visit is possible. A detour to the colliery Nightingale on trips through the Ruhr Valley cycle path is duty.

  • Highly interesting. Located on the Ruhr Valley cycle route, invites the colliery to a journey into the past. There are picnic tables at the colliery site.
