  • The National Park is around very well developed, large parking, from which you can launch hikes or walks. The paths are well preserved and maintained and well signposted. A great hiking area in summer and winter with groomed trails for skiing Cross-country skiers.

  • I was on Saturday in Wernigerode and Schierke. Unfortunately, the bus service from Schierke to Werningerode is disastrous. Although the weather (Sun, no wind/storm) is very good, lots of snow and have some federal land vacation, ferries only a few buses from/to Schierke, approx. 2 hours. Schierke by Werningerode I got no more room on the bus and was put off to the next bus in 2 hours. I came then with the HSB to Schierke, this was relatively expensive and led to about 90 minutes late (wait...). On the way back the bus was too full to five and he therefore drove by at the bus stop. The next bus took until 2 hours later. I am then in the dark, cold + snow to drei Annen Hohne migrated to still take the train from there (to shortly before 8) come to the Valley, so I could take only three hours later than planned in Werningerode the train. Eventually over 4 hours wasted and almost cold. Conclusion: Train (HSB) is relatively reliable, but very crowded. Bus is pointless.
