Schlossmuseum Weimar, Weimar

(4.2/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
Located inside the heritage-listed city castle, Schlossmuseum Weimar boasts a large collection of paintings dating from the Middle Ages to about 1900. The museum takes up the north, east, and west wings of the castle, originally built as a ducal residence and expanded considerably during its 500-year history. The former ducal collection is organized chronologically and spreads through many of the castle's grand rooms, some of which contain authentic furniture from the Baroque period. On the ground floor, you can explore the works of German masters, as well as a collection of sculptures and crafts, including furniture from the workshop of the renowned cabinetmaker David Roentgen. This floor also displays porcelain figures made by some of Europe's best-known manufacturers. Be sure to explore the second floor, where you can see works by the celebrated Weimar school of painting, an art style popular during the 19th century. Put Schlossmuseum Weimar into our Weimar trip itinerary maker and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • The Castle Museum is a "must" in Weimar...bitte very very much time schedule... Be sure use audio guide... and the Leporello studied... here you can see quick important, or too long stop in less spectacular. My tips (s Don Giovanni at the counter): Cranach-Gallery. Level 0: rather faster rush through the baroque residence castle, the collection of icons and sacred art. 1: rather faster go level through the Weimar art policy. Really interesting I found then the castle rooms, starting with the Ballroom... from now we should take really the time for all audio guides. Also the Gentzsche staircase up and leave! From the Ballroom, 2 hours are the minimum... The level 2 with Max Lieberman, Monet, Auguste Rodin can be edited then again more quickly. But also the audio guide 542 Max Beckmann and 545 Monet hear, I found that interesting
