In 1724, Johann August Richter and Gottfried Heinrich Krohne designed the Chateau of Belvedere (Schloss Belvedere) as a pleasure house and summer residence for Duke Ernst August of Saxe-Weimar. In the gardens, updated in the English landscape style in 1811, elegant pavilions flank the chateau's entrance. The plaster-relief interior houses 18th-century porcelain, faïence, paintings, and furniture belonging to the art collections of Weimar. Stroll through the recently restored festive hall and silver salon, and journey back in time to the storied house parties of the mid-18th century. Take in the historical carriage collection and exhibits on hunting and garden culture in the times of Duke August, experiencing life as it was centuries ago. Pick up the audio guide included in the ticket price for more historical information. After your visit, stop at the nearby teashop for refreshments. • This could be a nice museum, but at present works are done. The orangerie (and garden) is nice, but the Chateau itself is pretty outdated. It is nice to see, but not really a must see in Weimar.
  • Visit took place within the framework of a tour of the city. The castle is situated just outside the Centre. Very interesting also for lay people garden.

  • Concerning the other in Weimar, one must speak here already from a trip. A really nice castle with a still more beautiful garden and Park. Who has a little more time despite the many attractions, should visit be sure this place isn't overflowing.

  • Accessible by bike! it is an amazing road! Nice place to visit!
  • On a bicycle, take the path around the castle heading east and connects up to the Ilm river, a great ride.
  • We have looked at the Palace and the Orangery only from the outside. For this, we have made a great tour of the Park. It's worth! Despite full parking lot, one has its rest in this park and can move a few beautiful hours there.
